For those on the fence, or over the hill, about NOF 12/XII and wanting
to look over an alternative, (OR) to add the alternative to your NOF
12/XII stable of tools:
WYSIWYG 8 is now available.
Among many other items, 8 incorporates a built-in-CMS and supposedly
"over 150" new features.
At the least, it's worth a look.

For what it's worth - the German website for WYSIWYG is currently being
rebuilt following the release of Version 8 (in the last week or so).
Based on my personal experience of WYSIWYG since January - I have 100%
confidence in the product. Support is provided in the forum 365 days /
year by 'Pablo' - who is the man behind the software.
The software costs a fraction of what NOF costs, updates within versions
and major updates add functionality and more the product forward -
unlike some products where each new update introduces a new wave of bugs.
I've recently converted all of my websites (50+!) from NOF to WYSIWYG,
and now I can confidently make changes to the websites, secure in the
knowledge that the new development environment won't trash my websites,
and that simple 'one line' changes won't result in hours of wasted effort.
WYSIWYG also produces standards-compliant HTML.....
I'd rather trust my web development to 'somebody called Pablo' who
produces good software and supports it, than to some amorphous entity
called NetObjects that produces unreliable, overpriced software....
I have no connection with NOF or WYSIWYG - other than as a satisfied
customer of one company, and a grateful escapee from the other!
Your choice, of course.

RE: WYSIWYG Web Builder 8
I have known Pablo for a few years, not personally or in any way
associated with Pablo... but as a recommend-er, product reviewer and
discussing features for WYSIWYG Web Builder. And as a user, of course.
A pretty good product now/ At the start, appeared to be more of a
"NetObjects wanna-be sort of", but in the past two or so years, WYSIWYG
has really come into its own.
And, if it gives NOF a run for the money, well, that may be due as much
to Pablo's hard work, as it is Fusion's failures and "digital chuckholes
on the Information Highway" problems...
WYSIWYG Web Builder 8 sells for about $45 $US, and even at quite a bit
more if it was priced higher, it's well worth considering and using.

Does WWB rely on a NOD-like database to generate the HTML and thus run into the same problems as NOF... i.e. dependency on the database not corrupting and inability to import a published site?
yers, it does, and is hpeless at importing html.
I have just done a site in ms eXPRESSION wEB AS IT COULD IMPORT AN EXISTING HTML SITE and allow me to edit and republish.

Does not resemble a database file that I can associate it with,
either...again, resembles a mark-up language file a LOT.

predecessor to RTF and even to the likes of PDF.
You are right...Pablo's WYSIWYG bears strong family resemblance to RTF,
possibly suitably modified for his or HTML's needs.

I suspect the development tool he is using to give the WYSIWYG look and
feel is actually an RTF editor. Then he is exporting/converting to HTML.
That would account for using the RTF format for storage.
Of course that is just a guess.
Either way Pablo seems to have put a lot of effort into it and is making it
better with each release.
My biggest concern with that product's output is the use of fixed
positioning of page elements. It is just not flexible enough for the
multitude of devices out there IMHO.
Even on non-handheld devices, the screen resolutions are all over the
place. Without something that will adapt, you have to design for the
lowest common denominator and on most of today's desktop monitors that
means a lot of unused space.
