I've had no problems, but one annoyance: Apple's update program. I get a
popup every day or 2 telling me I need to update Safari & Quicktime & a
couple of other Apple programs I can't recall & there's no way (that I've
found) to shut this off.

One more question: do websites render identically in Safari, regardless of
whether it's running on a Mac or a PC?

Re: Autoviewer and NOF?
My understanding is that Safari 3.0 for Win is the same as Safari 3.0 for
Mac. But only Mac OS X Leopard & Tiger users can get Safari 3.0. All
others OSs are stuck with Safari 2.0 which many say is an inferior browser.

The download link shows Safari 3 for XP and Vista (though in a public beta
form). Sorry, I must be misunderstanding what you're saying.

BTW - to clarify this (followup on Nancy's post), you CAN copy/paste a
local file URL into the address bar, but you can NOT launch the program and
pass a local file URL.
We ran across this while adding support for it into PageSnip (one of the
cool things about it is that you can return to the URL where a snip was
taken - in the browser of your choice. PageSnip automatically detects and
offers to launch the URL in IE, FireFox, Opera and Safari PC.

I've had zero problems with it being installed.
It is a bit of a boring and unintuitive interface (as you might guess - I
am not a Mac person<g>), but I've had no problems as a result of using it
for testing with PageSnip.

Your right on that Nancy.
As I replied to Leroy in my other post - our use of it with PageSnip is for
being able to launch the Safari.exe with a URL as a parameter (to return to
where a snip was taken - in the browser of your choice).
It does NOT support that yet, but I've heard rumors at Apple that the next
release may fix that problem.

Hi Garret,
This is not Safari - but rather Quicktime that is annoying you.
Fortunately there is an old DOS trick that will help<g>
Go into the C:\Program Files\Quicktime folder and rename the qttask.exe
program to qttask.ex_.
Then create a FOLDER there and name it qttask.exe
When Apple tries to launch their check for updates (from pretty much any
page with an embedded QT object) the embedded viewer will not be able to
start qttask.exe.
Normally it would download a new copy and run it anyway, but since a folder
exists with the name that it expects to use to save the EXE, the download
will fail and you won't be saddled with a check for updates that you don't
want.
;-)

Mine is Version 3.xxx (see attached)
Unless perhaps they are calling it V3 when it is really V2.
Sort of like C7<g>?

Thank you Charles!
It is QuickTime, but the updater annoyed (notice the tense) me about Safari
as well.
I shoulda remembered that trick! You must be almost as old as I am ;-)

Re: Autoviewer and NOF?
Charles,
3.03 is the most recent. it fixes a number of security-related issues and
other problems.
Still beta.

Me too<g>

LOL - hey now, I RESEMBLE that remark<g>
;-)
Let's just say that I remember when DataFlex was "new" technology and that
the first hard disk drive for a PC that I ever saw was a 5 MB external
drive that took three days to format (plus you still had to boot on a
floppy with a device driver to access it).
.... and I was into computers well BEFORE that<vbg>
;-)

Just a followup - you still can't run the app and start with a local URL
that begins with file:///
