difficulty publishing with lots of pages

Hi All
One of my customers with NOF10 (for my sins I'm the tech support)
started with 100 pages. Now its gradually increased to 460 pages and
they get the error "error sending file **********\user
sites\assets\*****.jpg to the server"
Occasionally its all ok, sometimes a few errors or usually up to a
thousand file failures.
If they reduce the pages to around 400 it usually seems ok??????
Is it because the site is now just too big or are there any other ideas.
The site I suppose could be split in two, is this the answer and what is
the best way of doing it.

Have they reoptimized the site after verifing all assets? If not, have them or you do that first. Once that is done, export the site to a template for backup purposes and then do a local publish. If the remote publish continues to fail, the just FTP the local published files to the server.
