and then I need to move everything else somewhere else so only the site that says template from nov 2 is there?
The only thing you should have in your project folder is a single copy of your project file.

could you point me to the tutorial that tells me what to do with my template when I have it stored under the folders that it talks about in the above folder structure and I want it to become my site in place of what there already. why are all my backups listed under the folder, am I also supposed to move those into the backup folder. I've enclosed a screen shot of what I have now.
Do I just move the template folder into the local publish file and the backups into the backups folder?

From what I remember about your problem, you moved some backup files into the project folder and clicked on them to open Fusion when you were looking for a good backup when your original site project nod file failed. You moved all 7 of the files except educationalartsandcrafts.nod (which was the original project file that had the problem).

The first thing you need to do is figure out which one of the 7 files that are now in that folder is the one you are working with.

Once you figure out which one of the 7 is the current/active project file, you can use Windows explorer to move the ones that are not your current project file somewhere else (does not matter where as long as they are out of your project folder... I believe your project folder is called /educationalartsandcrafts and it should be located below the one called /User Sites).

You want only one file in that folder (the current active project nod file)

You can rename the current/active project file (what ever it is called now) to educationalartsandcrafts.nod so that you do not have to remember what it is currently called.

That takes care of cleaning up your project folder.

The template you mad using the process explained in this tutorial http://www.gotfusion.com/tutorials/tut.cfm?itemID=16 are compress/zipped files.
These can be stored anywhere. The exported template is your backup of the project. Take care of it. Export a new/updated template when ever you make changes to your web site project.

templates must be started using the process explained in this tutorial: http://www.gotfusion.com/tutorials/tut.cfm?itemID=17

The files in the backup folder are good so long as you do not have a system crash or hard drive failure or loose your laptop/desktop, or any hundred ways you can no longer get to your software on your computer. If you have a template file store in a safe location (burned to a CD and put somewhere safe) you can always import that template and when Fusion opens the project you created with the template everything will be where it is supposed to be and everything smells like roses.

then I went back to my backups and clicked on one of the old backups and I got the site I was looking for. But I had exported that site as a template so I could have that saved. it didnt save it it seems and i need to figure out how to get THIS backup to show up on my front page of nof and to save as a template when it crashes again

(Am I the one with the most problems you've encountered?)

You just need to get sorted out and get your current/active project file in the proper location and clean up the residue of your recovery so that you don't continue to get confused by too many files to choose from

Once you only have your current/active project file in your educationalartsandcrafts folder you will no longer be confused.

You may also want to remove any reference to other files in your online view list of projects (see this tutorial for how to remove those) http://www.gotfusion.com/tutorials/tut.cfm?itemID=422

This tutorial goes of the 3 steps to export to a template: http://www.gotfusion.com/tutorials/tut.cfm?itemID=16

This tutorial goes over how you import your web site (within Fusion) from a template: http://www.gotfusion.com/tutorials/tut.cfm?itemID=17

Think of a template as a box you keep your spare keys in.

If you lose your keys, you don't stick the box in the lock. You have to go through a process to get your keys (open the box and take out the keys).... The template is the box..... The keys are the nod file that is created from the template (the nod file is what you see in Fusion). The nod extension means Net Objects Datafile (or database).

I hear what you are saying but I am asking for something that I dont seem to understand. I worked on my site alot tonight. I exported it into a file but looking at the screen shot below (the site that I worked on was educationalartsandcrafts-backup 190)

#1 What do I get rid of from this list so that when I try to open nof tomorrow on my front screen it wont say educational arts and crafts backup 190- backup 192 as it says now in the opening but twill list the backup that I worked on tonight

I know its a very elementary thing but I have gotten so confused I am scared to close down my program for fear of not being able to find the right site again
