Default Need help - entire site disappeared after installing update

I hope you guys can help me with this. I raised a ticket in Support Centre but got absolutely no reply, not even an autoresponse. A follow up email also had no reply, and only had the effect of generating a whole new ticket.

I was looking on the Netobjects website a few days ago and noticed that there were some updates avaialble for my version of Fusion (10). I downloaded and installed the latest update (update 5), including quitting Fusion when requested, but when I re-opened Fusion the entire website I had been working on had completely disappeared. I searched all over the computer but could not locate it. This is several months of work and, while it is still published on the net, the prospect of having to recreate it completely in Fusion from scratch in order to do any future updates is, to say the least, unattractive.

Does anyone know what could have caused this to happen and what can be done to recover it. Can I uninstall the update and would that help?

You can take a look at this tutorial to see if helps you locate your files (is for Fusion 11 but there is reference to older products): http://www.gotfusion.com/tutorials/tut.cfm?itemID=4028

Thank you Mike, but I had already looked in that folder and it no longer has my site. I don't understand why or how installing an update can remove an entire site.

If you click File / New Site there is an option to create a new site from an
existing web site. Would this be the answer to your problem? Enter
"existing site" in the search box under the Index tab of NOF10 Help and you
get two options, one of which is "Creating a New Site from an Existing
Site". Unless I am missing something, that looks to be what you need to
    recreate your site locally..

Thanks Tinkerer. That is probably a good workaround to my immediate problem, but I am still very concerned as to what happened and how to avoid it. Do you have any ideas on the root cause? Should I have installed all the updates in order and not just the latest? What would be the consequences of installing the earlier updates now? As you can imagine, it has made me very wary of updating my software in future.

Can't help with that point, I am pretty new to this myself. As you will
see from my post on 6th November, my own current problem is bits of NOF10
that won't run under Win Vista. Like Secure Component items that disappear
as soon as you create them. Works alright in XP but then I am restricted
to my tower rather than my laptop. If you do find out what caused your
problem, please come back and tell us. In the meantime, I hope the
    workaround solves your immediate difficulty.

In windows explorer search for yourSite.nod (where yourSite is the actual name of your site).

If you have been exporting to template regularly you can create a new site from your safely stored template

See these two tutorials for details:

    Default Update

I got a response from Fusion Support. They told me I had to also install Update 4. (I had previously installed only 5) This has given some progress as my site has now mysteriously reappeared (no idea where it was hidden) but when I attempt to open it I get a warning saying the file is unstable and will be recovered, but it then crashes the program.

You might want to uninstall again (from windows control panel)
    Reboot
    Install the basic program
    Install all updates in order

If you are running windows 7 or vista right click on each of the install programs and select "run as administrator" Go over my how to install Fusion Essentials tutorial and follow the parts pertinent to all versions (ignore the go get your free SN part) http://www.gotfusion.com/tutorials/tut.cfm?itemID=4036 . You do NOT want to let the installer RUN the program. You want to set it to always run with admin privileges as outlined in this tutorial (ignore the JRE settings part as that is for version 11 only): http://www.gotfusion.com/tutorials/tut.cfm?itemID=4037

If you still get errors you can try to run an export/import of the damaged file:

    http://www.gotfusion.com/tutorials/tut.cfm?itemID=16

    http://www.gotfusion.com/tutorials/tut.cfm?itemID=17

IF that does not clean it up, try to locate a back up (in your backup folder) that is not damaged. You will need to COPY the file from the backup folder to your sites project folder before you open it (yes, another tutorial covers this too): http://www.gotfusion.com/tutorials/tut.cfm?itemID=4035
