Thread: Big White Space at Page Bottom

I have experienced a similar problem in the past. I could also see that
the code on the published page was different to the code in NOF's code
preview window. NOF was evidently getting confused when the publish
button was pressed and miscalculating the alignment of the objects on
    the page.

With luck, one of the following work-arounds should stop this happening:

    1) Change the 'HTML output' for tables from 'Columns' to 'Rows' in the
Layout Properties dialog (right click and select Layout Properties to
    bring up this dialog)

    2) It looks as though the layout region (I presume that's what it is)
enclosing your text menu and the '* Cruz Bay St. John US Virgin Islands'
text at the bottom of the page may be a little wider than the text box
that contains the main page content - this may be confusing NOF.
Reducing its width so that it is no bigger might work. Alternatively
remove the layout region, and add the text menu and the '* Cruz Bay St.
John US Virgin Islands' text directly into the bottom border (which
would also meet the aim of preventing anything in the footer from
extending wider than the main page text box.

    3) Insert a thin empty layout region right across the width of the
entire page in the bottom border, above any other content in the footer,
to make it clear to NOF where the break should go.

    4) Insert a thin empty layout region right down the page from the
underside of the top border to the top edge of the bottom border.

Following a completely different train of thought, it looks from the
preview that you posted that you may be changing the font styles on the
page; if so, it is preferable not to do this. Instead, change the text
styles in the 'styles' view and use these. Probably better in this case
to cut all the existing text, paste it into Notepad, then repaste it
into NOF and then set the styles.

Hope something here works for you.

Okay I highlighted the white area and clicked on CSS-PR

I took out the size, didn't really mean to leave it blank, but I did.

Previewed the page and it is fixed! THANK YOU!

I apologize for getting snarky...I was having a hard day yesterday and NOF
was the last thing I wanted to fight with. Didn't realize you were all just
    volunteering!

    Thanks again!

Hmm...this is weird, I keep changing it to 2210 and it keeps changing it
    back now.

Could this have something to do with the Tools > Options > Current Site >
    HTML Generation ?

I also have borders set in the table.

Did you try changing the table publish output as suggested by Max? Sometimes this will resolve a layout problem

Press F9 for the layout properties palette and select rows. Generate the page and see if it improves. If not switch it back to columns. (see attached screenshot)

I regularly find big empty spaces at the bottom of the layout on
published pages. The situation has gotten worse since I switched to
Semantic XHTML publishing over a year ago. It also happens under Dynamic
publishing, but rather less frequently. Sometimes I can eliminate the
problem by publishing the individual page as Dynamic.

When I was first trying to resolve the problem, I found that the page
length sometimes seemed to be affected by some formatting higher up the
page. For example, changing the Above space on a paragraph heading near
the top of the layout might eliminate the gap at the bottom. Makes no
sense. All I can tell you is that it made a difference on more than one
    occasion.

I've been tempted to go back to Dynamic publishing (at least until we
add video to the site). However, I've done so much tweaking to get the
site to display well in multiple browsers that I really don't want to
mess with that again. Oh well.

Yes, but something may be set making it not work. Tech's instructions should
have worked. There are always nuances that are easily missed. When you "...
already did that", was that when Tech* asked you to do it, or some time
previous to that? Even if you've done it "before" you should retry
instructions so that you are definitively answering the q of the person who
    suggested it.

If you're willing to answer the following questions, it may help you and/or
others here to assist you a lot better. If you simply feel you've already
done that, and don't do what's suggested, or answer the questions asked,
then you aren't helping others to help you.

    Using your link:
I see the excess space in FF 3.6.13 and Chrome.
IE8 displays it as you wanted; no extra space.
    XP SP3+ used.

    Try this:
In NOF, put your cursor on that page, anywhere. Make sure you can scroll
the page up and down or side to side if it's a short page and can't scroll
    up/down.

Now press CTRL-SHIFT-L-M and see if that does anything for it. Those are
just shortcuts to force the right and bottom margins in/up to where they
belong as long as there are no data in the space, including return feeds,
    etc..

What mode have you set for the site? e.g. Flat, Dynamic, etc.?

Have you set any page protections? e.g. page, header, footer, body, etc.. IF
so, remove them and try again.

What do you see in Preview mode?
Second icon over from "Design" at bottom of page.
What browser do you have set to do Preview? If it's IE, then it's
going to look like no space is there onscreen with IE8. If FF Chrome or
other, then it should show up in Preview.
Do you see the white space there?
    Quite frankly, I don't understan "... seeing is not what I am ... ."
