No, it won't. Nothing will affect the total number of files. But it will/may
re-arrange their locations plus the other notes I included will also help.
The only changes a layout change will make is a few changes in what is saved
where. e.g. I have no assets in the root directory, they're in their own
folder, html is in the folders with its other relevant objects, etc., so it
might clear out some of the overage the OP has, depending on a few things.

However, I more suspect it may be the unused files that are left on his
server from removing them via updating the site on his machine and not the
web site. There is a way in NOF to get it to delete the files it replaces,
but ... I've never found it to be consistant so perhaps I've missed
something in that area.
I use a local Apache server and the same PHP rev as my server and I
recommend it; that way a local Publish can be exactly the same as what
appears in Preview and on the site (assuming Preview is set to the same
browser I view the site in). If those browsers are different, the pages will
all remain the same but may differ some in their presentation.
Or do you think it's a local problem? If you've already given a
solution, I must have missed it and apparently the problem still persists.

Twayne, it's not unused files. I delete completely the old site and upload the whole site again everytime time.

You need to move away from static content into a database to server your content.

Many years ago I had a site with over 1000 static pages (easily far more files that what godaddy is allowing you).

When I moved to serving the content from a database the site went down to 12 static pages that displayed 1000 content items. The gotFusion site is another example of serving dynamic (database) content. The tutorials are served from a single page (tut.cfm). One page serves over 400 pages of content.

There comes a point where the correct choice is non static (dynamic) content.

You are not going to be able to stick within what godaddy is allowing you, unless you move away from static html content.

Is switching over to a database something I that I can do pretty quickly and easily within netobjects? Is there an online quick start somewhere? Can I just convert the site? (I don't have much time left with godaddy's 1/6/11 deadline )

No... it's not fast. To do it yourself, you'd have to learn a scripting language and how to program a database. The Fusion DB tools would help if your needs are basic.

Otherwise, you'll need to get a hired gun to do the work for you. When means a significant expense.

Another route would be to use something like CubeCart to recreate your store.

As a stop-gap, you could hire some help to make your site "GoDaddy friendly" by rearranging things to stay within their boundaries.

The best and ultimate solution is to go to a database... whichever way you get there.

You have a catalog with prices....

You have everything but a shopping cart to sell online.

Doesn't change the fact you should really go to a scripted catalog using a database.

If you did, it would be easy to take the next step and add a shopping cart.
