Default HELP!! attempting to insert Secure Page for 1st time

    Hi All,
My apologies up front for my ignorance!!

I have just uploaded a new site www.basingstokewolverines.co.uk and need to
place a members only area on the site. I have now read, re-read and printed
off and then read the entire part of the user guide relating to 'sign up,
login and secure pages' and still can't seem to get my head around it!!

My first problem is - do I start this process in the order that it is given
in the User guide ie. insertion of 'sign up' first? If so, then once
completed, why is my sign up component completely illedgible - ie it
displays as shdes of grey and black within an outlines box. Obviously I
know that I am doing it wrong.

I also unfortunately do now work in code (could it be more obvious)

If anyone could stoop to my level of knowledge and offer some helpful advice
(in 'idiot' speak please) I would be eternally grateful!!

    Many, many thanks
    Debs

    Hi Debs,

Yes, follow the process as laid out.

Note, like all the active components, you don't get to see it at work until you publish to a webserver, hence the black square where the component will appear when published.

I find it best to set up a sub domain and publish there while getting the component right.

    HTH

If you do not need to do anything other than allow people access to pages you can use your hosting control panel to password protect a folder and place the content in there. Each user would have to log in to gain access to the folder (and all files contained within them).

This would be best for a simple "let me in" type of situation where you do not need to manipulate anything based on a user's log in permissions.

If you have a small group (10-15) of people you can just give them all the same username/password to use.

I have found that the simple solution is usually the best one

    Hi Mike,

Huge thanks for the great and speedy advice and the fact that I understood
    every word!!

I have 67 cheerleaders and staff, would you still recommend this option for
    this amount of people?

    Hugely grateful Debs

If you don't have an issue using the same username password for everyone it should work fine. Since it is a close knit organization you can just email everyone the login details.

    Hi Mike,

That's it then!! I think that I will try this option first, it appears it
may be an easier option at this point - I do believe that perhaps I am a
little out of my depth at this time with the Secure Site component, but will
continue to attempt to master it.

What a great bunch you all are...thank you all for your kindness and help

    Many thanks
    Debs
