Default Background color outside the main body

If I have a page designed for 1024x768 and it is viewed on a wider screen/higher relsolution etc. How can I change the background screen color outside the main body of the page?

Lets say the main body of my designed page is white, but I wanted the extra space on someones monitor to be a gray color. Is that possible? If so, where do I tell it to be gray?

    Hopefully this makes since.

    Thanks.... Paul

create a white bg image and make it 1024 wide and 10 pixel high will do, because it repeats to any height

set the body bg color to gray

I forgot to mention that you need to set the bg image to center and repeat in Y direction

Errr, you don't need to use images as you can control all the colour settings via CSS.

Also this tutorial of Mikes will help you achieve the same result.

Wouldn't it be great if there was only a single browser to worry about!!!

I was speaking for myself, because I usually don't have a plain bg image, it may have graduation or graduated borders on left and right
