Thread: Backup and recovery

    Default Backup and recovery

My primary goal is to have a backup of my site and be able to restore the site to the backup version or an earlier automatic saved version made between backups. What I do currently is backup to an external disk the subdirectory <PATH>/Netobjects Fusion 12.0/User Sites/<MY SITE NAME> where PATH is where I set NOF tools/options/current site/backups/repository path. I have several questions related to this.
    1) If I need to restore from my backup, do I just copy over the <MY SITE NAME> directory?
    2) In the above directory, there are "autosaves" and "recover" subdirectories. Can either of these be used to revert to an earlier version of my site without going to the external backup. If so, what is the procedure.
    3) I have run into a case where NOF hung and on subsequent restart it said the site was damaged and I was forced to OK a dialog box before I could close the program. Closing causes an automatic save of the BAD version which I did not want to do. How do you exit the program WITHOUT saving?
    4) If I copy the <MY SITE NAME> subdirectory to a new location on my disk, how do I get NOF to start using that location as the new repository path?

    I am using Windows 7.

I read the 2 articles above. There are still un answered questions.
    1) I have a nightly automatic backup system that copies selected directories to removable media. It cannot 'export to template'. So if I need to restore from this automatically-created backup of <MY_SITE_NAME>, how do I do it?
    2) I would like a technical explanation of the "autosaves" and "recover" directories. Do I ever access them directly to restore an older version?
    3) This question was not answered.

Please give me specific answers to these listed questions.

    Thanks.

The backup and autosaves are only useful from within Fusion. Copying them are not ways you should consider backups.

the template method takes everything that Fusion needs to rebuild a site.

You can save your templates within a folder you make in your user sites folder then have your daily backups copy the folder that the templates are stored in it but you need the actual template zip file to rebuild a site project within the Fusion software.

You "can" rebuild using your method but it might take days/weeks rather than a couple of mouse clicks

These gotFusion pages may explain some of your other questions
