    Default ecommerce software recommends

Can anone recommend an ecommerce solution to use within NetObjects so that I
can retain full control of the design in one package so to speak. I have a
client after a site with 420 items to sell.

    Many thanks

I don't think NOF's ecommerce component is robust enough to handle more than
50-100 products. For 450+ products you'll need to use a 3rd party shopping
cart like Cubecart, Zencart, Ultracart... then just link your NOF site pages
to the external shopping cart site.

    Hi Tim,

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, for a fantastic e-commerce
solution, use 4D Site designer from www.softidiom.com. ZenCart and so
on are OK, but they don't offer all the other features 4D does, and it
works seamlessly with NoF, they even have NoF tutorials to help you
    get started.

    Hi David,

I've looked at this before but as usual there's a lot of marketing hype
and not much tech info. Can you answer these for me please:

Is this a client or server side application? If server side, what
technology is required to support it?

It says that I can buy additional copies for each domain I want to set
up. This is the route I'd take as I'd bill the cost of the app into my
hosting fees for clients wanting a particular functionality, eg,
e-commerce (I currently use miva merchant which also has to be licensed
for each install), cms, etc. Does this mean I could end up running 30
different copies of the software on my PC or do they have a
multiple-domain licensing model for a single installation?

Look forward to your reply. If the answers are positive I may well add
this into my arsenal of tools.

    TIA

    franko

    Hi franko,

    Pretty simple, really.

    System requirements are:

    - The ability to run custom CGI scripts
    - CGI for Perl 5.6 or above (5.8 for extended character support)
    - CGI and HTTP documents held on the same server
    - MySQL Database (optional)

There are 2 versions of 4D - Standard, which allows a single domain or
Professional which allows unlimited domains, so you only run one copy
of the software on your machine, you only buy it once.

I reccommend you download the 30 day trial, it is fully functional,
except you cannot publish to an external web server. however, it comes
with its own server software so you try everything.

    http://softidiom.com/cgi-bin/site/do...%20and%20Demos

Like anything worthwhile, there IS a learning curve, but have found
the upport excellent. Chris and his team are very helpful. Look at the
forum for examples of how supportive they are.

    http://softidiom.com/forums/index.php

I still think NoF is good value for money, and will continue using it,
but find 4D just adds all the bits NoF misses.

Feel free to ask more ? here, or email me direct if you prefer.

I'd also be happy to co-operate on a project to get you up and
    running.

    Hi David,

strange but your reply has only just shown up in my news client :-(

Thank you for the information and your offer. I'm downloading the demo
version at the moment and will have a play with it. As soon as I get a
client that will justify it I'll take you up on your offer to
collaborate to get it up and running.

    God bless

I can highly recommend Avactis http://www.avactis.com/ for using with NOF as
it has a tagging system that is very easy to use in NOF (i.e. (add a text
box CTRL+T + a PHP tag gives you for instance the Checkout page
auto-generated information) with the eCommerce full administration running
in the background. Also, as I know you're a fellow Aussie, it has Australia
Post and Payment gateways built in for Australia.

thanks Jim, I'll check it out. For most of my ecommerce Mal's plus Pay
Pal works just fine but I am looking to build bigger, more complex
    shopping sites.

This would make sense since I do not see the engine for CubeCart in my NOB XII. So I create the store in CubeCart and link all my NOF site pages to the external shopping cart site. That sounds ok, but I can't visualize how and where that happens.

If you don't mind indulging my ignorance, I would appreciate your answer,

    Vickie
