Default text boxes vs layout regions

Please excuse my basic questions, but I'm starting new sites for the
first time in years - plus am upgrading from ver 7 to 12.

Which is better to use - a text box or a layout region? I can find how
to do each, but not a comparison of the pluses/minuses - or when to use
which. On my old sites, I used text boxes, but not sure that's the
    better way to go.

    Thanks, Dana

Depends on what you are putting in them. Once you start playing with the layout regions, you'll quickly see what's different about them. They're mainly useful when you want pixel-perfect placement of things. For example, if you have a large table cell, and within that cell you have some images and text, your tools for placing the items are limited left and right and center... but if you fill the cell with a layout region, and place each chunk of text into it's own text box, the individual items can now be nudged into any position you want. You don't put text into a layout region itself... you put text into a text box that is place in the layout region. You'll catch on real quick once you fiddle with them.

Thanks! - It sounds like the Layout Region IS what I need, so I shall
play around with them a bit.

    Appreciate your reply,

    Dana
