    Default JDK not installed??

I started up NOF 12 today after being on vacation and I not get this....

Did a search in this forum and got back nothing.

    I have Java (Version 7 Update 5).

    Any ideas?

First couple of things I'd try (and you may well have done so too):
    1. reinstall java
    2. Ensure NoF is set to "Use external JRE (1.6)" under Tools -> Options -> Application Options Program tab.

The problem is that Steve has the latest JRE1.7 installed, that´s the reason why he gets this notification.
And NOF is not compatible with this version.
This issue is reported already and will be on the list for upcoming updates.

If you change the JRE settings under Tools > Options > Application Program back to the bundled NOF version the notification will go away.

If NOF users get a "JDK not installed" error when using JRE7, they will need to download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 10.0 Runtime DLLs (x86).

NOF users running under Vista and Windows 7 will also need to disable the FTP state filtering by executing the following command as Administrator from a command window:

netsh advfirewall set global StatefulFtp disable

I was on vacation for a bit and did not get to post my fix.....

Yes Java 1.7 did cause the problem. I did try the setting Java to the internal version and that worked, but I did not feel comfortable with that as I have has problems with that in the past.

I did uninstall 1.7 and re-installed 1.6 and all is well now.

I did not try installing "Microsoft Visual C++ 10.0 Runtime DLLs (x86)"

I don't really understand mia's response to this problem. The current JRE recommended by Oracle is Version 7 update 6, which I have installed (on a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit PC - I have both 32- and 64-bit versions of that JRE). I can run NOF 9, 11 and 12, using the program's option setting of "Use external JRE", without any reports of Java problems. Where does this talk of JRE 1.7, which must be ancient by now, come from?

JRE 1.7 is identical with Version 7.
The problems with NOF is a known issue, as you can read above in post #4.
If you don´t have any problems, well, good luck to you.

I'd recommend the Oracle Java 6 download site to get the 32 bit Windows edition of the Java 6 Run-time Environment.
