webdav publishing, Connection failed.

Fusion XII (12.00.0000.5071), Windows 7. Using the same WEBDAV publishing instructions this semester that we've used spring 2011, fall 2011, spring 2012, but now the students and I get a "Connection failed." message when trying to publish to Xythos. I have checked with our IT people and the last update to Xythos was in January 2012. We didn't have any problems publishing in February 2012, after that update. I'm not sure what could have changed since then.

My IT contact says that the problem seems to be with using SSL with NOF webdav. We need to connect using https: for security purposes.

Does anyone have any suggestions? My students' web site assignment is due next Monday.

there are MANY types of ssl ftp connections used by web hosts.

the solution is to local publish and use a freeware FTP program like filezilla which can handle several types of ssl connections to do the uploading from the local publish folder to your web host.

If you find that filezilla does not support what you need to use for your ssl connection you will need to search for a commercial FTP software that supports what you need to use.

Thanks for your quick response. Unfortunately, Xythos doesn't support FTP. If it did, we could just use FTP directly from NOF. (Couldn't we?)

I'll check with our IT support people tomorrow, but even if this works, it's a lot to ask of students to download, install, and use this. I think we are stuck with webdav.

How do you expect to upload content if you can't FTP?

WEBDAV. That's what we've used the last three semesters. For some reason, it's not working now.

Rats! You gave me an idea but it didn't work. There's a way to map a Xythos folder as a drive, so I thought that if I did that, I could local publish. Unfortunately, it wants to FTP, which Xythos doesn't allow.
