Faults when FTP to hosting server

After successful 'local' publish attempt to do an FTP publish frequently hangs up on xfer of some file (varies) but especially 'Soft - Baby Blue\Images\background.jpg', 'style.css', 'tab-bg.png', 'sitemap.xml' plus, occasional web pages. This does not appear to be 'time-of-day' dependent. Clicking on 'cancel' does nothing. While the little window is displaying the cancel message we can re-optimize, save site, close site and, sometimes, even publish site while hung in the cancel of FTP upload. Else, closing site, waiting five minutes then reopening sometimes allows a successful xfer. Situations and successful work-arounds vary but eventually site does get uploaded. Appearance of published site (on hosting server) appears okay and no suggestions of problems are apparent but, actually, there obviously were. We've also attempted FTP publishing without first local publishing but same problems.
We have found many other bugs but they are minor in comparison. All seem to have work-arounds though very time consuming.

What are you FTP settings in NoF? What is your directory structure?

You can also upload your local publish using a 3rd party FTP program like FileZilla http://filezilla-project.org/ to upload the site. This will also give you a nice view of your servers directory structure.

I assume you mean NOF-12.

I suspect the problem is with your computer, not NOF or any ftp client.
Sound like maybe you need to do a good clean-out of your machine, actually.
I say that because you said it sometimes will work and at others won't. The
long upload Cancel time indicates that too, IMO. It appears that the Cancel
requires a notice back from your server to close the Abort window.

Be sure to Export Template which is in the File menu. This "template"
contans everything you need to reload your web site; assets, images, root,
etc. etc. even including the ,nod. A template is one way to package an
entire site into one .zip file. Once created, keep it somewhere SAFE! Then
you'll always at least be able to get back to that starting point. I use a
batch file to append a date/time to the template and copy it to an external
hard drive. That way I can create multiple templates during the same day if
I wish to, and I often do wish to. Safety frst <grin>.
To recover a site from a template, use File - Site from Template in NOF.

I've been through similar experiences as you, actually.

Here's my advice and I'm not sure which if any actually created the fix. I
did the following:

== Backup all your data. Be sure you have your OS CDs and serial numbers
handy in case you should need to reinstall the OS.

== Do you have the latest update installed? If not, get it from the
Netobjects website. Updates 1 and 3 are available on the site.
== Install them and Restart; see if there is any joy. If not,

== Uninstall/reinstall NOF. If no joy, now the monkey work starts:

== Have a look at Event Viewer for serious errors, especially anything that
looks like it may impact NOF. Absolutely NO errors should exist in the Event
Viewer. These have to be fixed, first and foremost. Warnings are usually
only that and nothing to worry much about. Check what the Warnings are
about, though - you may find some things that talk about NOF or NOF related
files in there.

== Do NOTHING ELSE while you do the following:

== Disconnect your computer from the internet and turn off any AV scanning
you may have running plus any malware detectiions so they won't get in the
way.

== Restart. Alkways, after running any application.

== Run CHKDSK or whatever you have (you failed to mention your OS) on each
disk drive. The onscreen instructions will tell you to reboot to run chkdsk
on the next Restart when you run it on your boot drive.
== Run disk cleanup but untick the choice to work on cookies unless you
don't want to keep ANY of them.
== Run a cookie program like Winpatrol (free). It allows you to check
cookies from sites you want to keep and will delete all others. It also has
a place to put a listing of other places you never want to see on your
computer.
== Go through Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and uninstall any
programs you don't use. It might be a good idea to be sure you have the
original programs in case you want to reinstall them.
== Add/Remove usually leaves behind their install directories and a settings
folder; you can eiither delete them manually from Program Files or just
ignore them; nothing gets left that is executable.
== Run CHKDSK again on the boot drive and any drive that NOF may use for any
purpose.
== Run a registry checker for problems. Be careful - you can trash your
machine with some of these programs. CCleaner is a decent one for neophytes.
ALWAYS allow a backup or add-back data to be created in case something does
go wrong.

And then:
== Do one last Restart, then Shut Down and actually remove the power plug to
your computer, waiit 30 seconds, then restart it
== Reconnect to the internet.
== Run all the Antivirus and anti-malware programs you have. Plenty of good
ones available free.
After running each applcation, be sure to Restart you computer.

You've already proven that things like Security and Firewalls aren't getting
in your way so no need to do anything about those.

I know that sounds like a lot of work, but it worked for me. Personally I
use a Norton package to do most of these things: It consists of Norton
Internet Security, Ghost (automated, scheduled backups), and SystemWorks and
all are jampacked with other useful utilities and features that, should you
get the elsewhere than Norton.com, it would cost you quite a bit more more.
Even if you just download the free trial versions for a one tiime use, it
would be worth it IMO.
