Default NOF 11 Remote ftp access

    Hi,

I have a rather odd problem that occurred today; it has been working for a
long time (years) before this. Thanks to a Template snafu, I've lost all of
NOF's ftp settings for my web site. No way can I seem to recall what it was,
nor what to do to set it up again for NOF ftp access. All that's left is the
Local Publish settings; no REMPTE ftp settings.

Yes, it's passive, as best I can I've copied Filezilla's setup, which
still works, but I cannot find anywhere that will advise me of my past
password or all of the NOF ftp settings needed.

    Can anyone help?

    TIA,

    Twayne`

Unfortunately I do not know of any method to unmask your FTP password without shell access to the domain. You'll probably have to call or email your hosting provider for a password change.

Understood; and I've done that. ONCE A DAY for every day I want to access my
site thru the Netfims tools like Control Panel, Webmail, Support, etc. They
work for that session but once that session goes away, it stops accepting
the passwords and tags them a no good.
Unfortunately this all occurred AFTER I'd ordered NOF12 for the online
price of $40, and now not only can I not find ANY help on this problem, but
I can't even get an acknowledgement that my order went thru. It's supposed
to be a downloadable upgrade but when you can't even access the site ... .

If I see that charge on my CC, there's going to be some hell to pay! They
did send me ONE e-mail to my trouble ticket, that allowed me to get the
ordering done at that time, but it's an expired address now. The e-mail
offer was from Websites Pro and I DID check to be sure it was them and not a
spam/scam. I'm beginning to thiink all of NOF folks are scammers, though -
selling product with no support, etc.
If no word after the next cc billing cycle, I'm going to put a stop of
the cc and forbid paying them, just in case they come through.

I guess I'm a little confused, Twayne. I thought it was your web site you couldn't get access to because you'd lost the ftp settings for which you can hardly blame NoF. Or is it the NoF web site you cannot access? I wasn't aware that there was ever ftp access to that for downloads. Surely all you have to do is download the application via your web browser? Or am I mis-understanding?

Sorry if I wasn 't clear, Franko. I'll try to straighten it up:

It is my site, twaynesdomain.com. It is parked at Netfirms.com.
It is Netfirms.com I am having the problem with. When I try to access, say,
the control Panel or anything else really, it responds that my credentials
(uname, PW) are no good somehow so I can never get to those.
UNLESS I go to Netfirms.com without signing in, and click on say Control
Panel, the password there won't work. But, if I click to Send Password, I'll
get a password setup created of my own choosing, and it'll continue to work
    for that session ONLY.
If I end the session and try to go back in later, it refuses me again,
with what I now know it considers a "bad" password. BTW all passwords I
assign get a "strong" ratiing by Netfirms.
So everytimg I want to access anything about my site at Netfirms, I must
go thru the process of first assigning a new password everytime it fails,
and it fails on every succeeding session on Netfirms!

The curious part is, as long as I keep the password current in Filezilla, I
can sing in anytime to manage my site - no password problem.

So on the one hand it looks like a problem at my end, but on the other, it
appears to be a Netfirms problem. All of this problem area coming when
trying to use NOF's ftp settings.
So to the best of my knowledge it has to be the way I'm setting up NOF's
ftp settings that's causing the problem. I can't find them on Netfirms (at
least in a fashion that helps me) and that's why I'd like to know what
someone else's Remote ftp settings are. It started suddenly, a couple of
weeks ago and still persists to this day. It's pretty irritating; for years
all I've had to do was tell NOF to do the upload and suddenly the passwords
    or setup no longer work.
I've asked Netfrms but gotten the black-hole response of course, telling
me to go to the program's site, which I've done - they just send me back to
    Netfrms!

If anyone could part with all the settings they use for NOF's working ftp
access to their sites, I would sure appreciate it!

I suspect that's all that's wrong; Netfirms made changes somewhere and
didn't tell me (or others?) about t.

    HTH, & TIA,

    Twayne`

Delete your remote publish profile and create a new one using your login/password.

It could be an invisible control character got into your current settings.

Thanks; that did seem to solve one of two problems.

Now I understand and can see that it would be irritating. Glad to see you've resolved the issue as I couldn't have helped. I never have used NoF's ftp program, always local published, tested the site thoroughly and then uploaded with a dedicated ftp program.

    Thanks, Franko,

I sometimes do the same when I've done something new or that I'm not sure
of, but it's not necessary here because I've made the site ultra-simple and
small - don't need my local server to do any testing except to verify once
in awhile that the Publish can still be done correctly.
But even then I don't upload the local Publish - there's no substitute
for just two clicks to upload a page or the whole site - it's a prefect
    situation.
BTW, I suspect Netfirms fxed "something" here and just didn't tell me.

    HTH,

    Twayne`
