Thread: NOF Version 12 Program Crashes

  1. #1

Default NOF Version 12 Program Crashes

    The site is 167 pages.

    - Asset tools run to completion

    - Re-oprimize runs to completion

    - Go to any page, open a text box

Type --- and the program crashes on the forth -

    Type - - - - - - - - a space between the dashs and all works fine.

After crash, restart, page is recovered, Asset tools run to completion, Re-optimize runs to completion.

    Export to Template works fine.

    Import from Template works fine.

    What's up with this?

    Win -7 machine
    3GB memory

So I reloaded Version 12 and created a new blank web site.

Opened a Text Box in the virgin site and typed 4 - (dashes) and the program crashed.

Typing 4 asterisks * crashed the program.

The same failure with 4 plus signs +, and 4 ^ signs.

Alpha and numeric characters (of the ones I tried) worked, as did $ and #.

Would seem to be to be a bug in the software??

I've tried this and confirm that the program crashes after typing the 4th consecutive - or * into a text box.

Happens if all are typed at once, and also if you leave the text box after the 3rd character and then return and add the 4th.

Also happens if you do a series of both * and - in it. Crashes on the 4th character.

If you make the 4th character a letter and then backspace it away, you can add as many of the * or - as you want without crashing.

    Very strange bug.

I wonder if this issue may be connected with the way a series of these characters (- and *) is converted to a full width line or series of dots in a program like Outlook when you type a message.

Same answer as the guy that goes to the doctor and says, "Doc, every time I do this, it hurts."

And the doctor says, "So don't do that!"

Weird bug. I'm going to try it out next chance I get.

Ray, I completely agree... However, there was a reason I needed the string of dashes and when you're up to your ears in a web site and the program continually crashes you don't think of explaining the problem to the doctor ;-)

It is a very strange problem and one that's taken years to surface (for me).

Anyway Doctor, thanks for confirming I'm not crazy.

Chuck, thank you for your confirmation.... I don't know if NOF monitors this forum, but I'll submit a bug report...

    Cheers,

    Here, am/are Using NOF 12 with Update #3...Win 7 64bit Service Pack 1 +
the fixes that came afdter SP1...

This crash must be using other than Windows 7 64bit, as here, after MANY
iterations, blank sites, text boxes, typing in all manner of four
asterisks (or) dashes, plus-signs, etc., not one crash has been
generated under any and all circumstances.

If we are instead talking Windows 8 and NOF 12, god help us all.

    I tested on:

    Win7-64
    NoF12-5071.
    JRE 1.6

I'll test later on another machine with the same setup, but with JRE 1.7.x installed.
