    Default Meta Tags

Firstly, I am very much new to all of this so please be gentle as I am not even sure if I am using version 12 or 2013!

I set up my website tufftimbers.co.za 6 to 8 months ago and seem to have trouble with my meta tags. At this stage a Google search on the word tufftimbers yield a result but the various words which I have entered under the meta tags key words still yields no results at all.

I have read all the available info that I have been able to lay my hands on and am still not sure what I am doing wrong.

I would really appreciate if anybody can give me some advise in simple beginners language.

    Thanks

Meta Tags are no more important to search engines. Since the Google algorythm is a secret, noone knows whether meta tags could be totally neglected alltogether. I keep them updated, though I once had Google top 10 hits with a site I had forgotten to fill in meta tags...

Search engines use the description meta tag to display what the web site is about so it's good to have intelligent, meaninful description tag. Peter is right that no meta tags will influence search engine results on their own. Google's algorithm takes in a wide range of criteria.

This page is regularly updated on what is known about Google's latest algorithm changes.

in my experience, the most important factor are links from other sites to yours (the higher ranked these other sites are, the better). also, the time counted in years your site is up, seems to be very important. - me, I never gave a damn to SEO voodoo, and have lots of Google top 10 and even some top 1 hits.

P.S. As Gotfusion says: Content is King. Not sure about "placing within H1 page heading" and this stuff, but interesting, unique content makes your site visible.

Content, content, content. The rest comes secondary....

Freshness (new content weekly at a minimum)

Relevancy (site is about what someone is searching for)

Longevity (now many years has the content been online)

    All of these are prime.

Good programing technique is just the icing on the cake that makes the difference between a first page ranking and being ranked down the list.

I second all others but "freshness" is not relevant, Mike.

This may have changed recently but as of the last time I checked fresh content did factor into the ranking algorithm

Thanks guys I really appreciate all the input.
By content, do you guys in this foreign language you use mean written content (I thought concise and to the point was better) or pictures and lots of pages etc?
I know that I may be flogging a dead horse here buy just on the Meta Tags, I am unsure from reading the User Guide. Should each descriptive word be followed by a comma and then a space or just a comma.
