Multiple guestbooks per site solved
Hi folks,
I had asked for solutions in the "Multiple guestbooks per site?" thread back
on 2/3/10. Having since found a good solution, I wanted to share the
results. My goal was to add guestbooks (GB's) at the end of every article on
my site, to allow readers to post comments. I looked at various GB systems
and finally ended up with WCS, available here:
http://cellbiol.com/scripts/free_php...guestbook.html
I used the $20 paid version and received great support from Andrea, the
developer. BTW, Andrea is a biology researcher in real life and I imagine
that WCS is mostly a labor of love. I currently have GB's on ten articles on
the site: http://www.tronola.com/
---feel free to take a look.
It took a little hacking to get WCS just the way I wanted it (mostly
removing features) but now it is very easy to deploy additional GB's. The
html code for the GB is encapsulated in a text block which I can copy and
position as an object in NOF.
I will be happy to answer any questions about what I have learned with WCS,
if anyone wishes to use the system. (I have no affiiliation with WCS.)
I am very happy that readers of the website now have the opportunity to
leave feedback and comments on the individual articles there. Hope that the
next NOF developer to need this feature can benefit from this. If there is
interest, perhaps I could do an article about it (though that would not
normally be within the scope of my site).

I know this is the NetO news group...... BUT....... A web site like that
would be a perfect candidate for blog software like wordpress which has the
comments feature/function built into it.

Re: Multiple guestbooks per site solved
Hi Mike,
That option had been mentioned in the original discussion around 2/3/10.
However, the articles on my site were already built-out. Unless I were to
reformat the articles in WordPress (WP), I would be trying to use only the
talkback features of WP, without the blog itself. Would also need to have
multiple instances of the talkbacks in the various articles on the site. Not
sure if WP supports the multiple instances. I usually think of a blog as a
single entity.
So I wanted a reader comments solution which I could just drop into each
article on the existing site. Thank you for the comment, though.

Thanks for the followup, Steve.
