Snippet Master CMS?
Hey,
I found this curious link in my bookmarks folder.
http://www.snippetmaster.com/index.php
Is anyone using SnippetMaster for client content management? Just wondering
how well it works. Any opinions?
I was about to set up my first CushyCMS site, but I feel a little more
secure with an installed script (rather than web-based) because if the
company disappears, you're still functional.
Thanks,

Re: Snippet Master CMS?
Ray,
I'd be very interested to hear people's views on this. I like the
possibilities SnippetMaster provides - self branded for a one off low
cost too.
I've just converted a dozen nPower sites over to CushyCMS and have to
say both I and the clients are very happy. But as you say, there is a
risk if CushyCMS dies a death.
I've contacted my ISP to see if my server supports "Zend Optimizer or
Ioncube Loaders" but I have a feeling that as mine is a shared server I
probably wont get that option.
So guys, ever used it - any thoughts?

Re: Snippet Master CMS?
Not using it yet but about to buy the 5-licence package after
evaulating pretty much every other cms around. I also like the promise
of concrete5 but the documentation is so rudimentary at the moment that
unless you're a whiz php programmer it's very hard going.
I have installed snippetmaster on my server and played with it and like
it very much. Yesterday I installed the free rebranded demo licence and
will have a running demo on my web site shortly.
cheers

Re: Snippet Master CMS?
Apparently "Zend Optimizer and Ioncube Loaders" are Linux based? Or at
least my ISP say I can use them only on Linux servers...All my stuff is
currently on Windows servers.

If you're looking for another solution to compare to, this one is
unbranded, not remotely hosted, can be used on as many sites as you
want, has new easier installation and is cheap. It has some
limitations, too, but perfect for certain situations.

Re: Snippet Master CMS?
Hey, Paul
Maybe you should look at Content Seed. I also found a link in this
mysterious bookmarks folder called CMS.' (I guess I was doing some research
a while back...)
http://contentseed.com/
It's a little more expensive, but looks simple and supports ASP, PHP and
ASP.NET.
Has anyone tried this? It's not clear what sort of tagging is required, but
I imagine it's similar to all the others.
I also another link for something called Nano CMS, which now goes to one of
those horrible "Sponsored Link / Buy This Domain" pages. This illustrates my
concern: If your CMS is based through someone else's web site, and they pack
it in, you're sunk. (Although, I don't think NanoCMS was web based, but all
the same...)

Re: Snippet Master CMS?
...
It is not a Windows or Linux "thing" as both zend and ioncube are just php
based software and most windows hosts will support php.
Zend guard is a $600 annual subscription based product.
http://shop.zend.com/en/zend-guard.html
Ioncube, though not subscription based, is a commercial product. I did not
spend the time to figure out the total cost to purchase all of the requited
modules.
Your host may not have enough customers interested in either product to
warrant the purchase of specialized software for their servers. This is the
reason many hosts do not offer ColdFusion as the cost vs the demand may not
warrant the expense.
If this is something that you think you need, you will have to search out a
host that offers these services (and not just any Linux host)

Re: Snippet Master CMS?
Laurence,
Just used your email form as seen on the somegoodgiftideas link you
posted! Looks interesting if it can be customised to suit a client site
style or my own site style. Lets have more info ASAP!

Re: Snippet Master CMS?
Wow. Nice li'l CMS, Laurence.
One thing that I immediately saw as an issue (as I tried to bastardize
Paul's logo... ) was the limited colour palette for setting text colour and
background. I know you could go into HTML mode and edit the code, but not
very user friendly to the non-savvy site owner.
Any thoughts of an update to that aspect?

Re: Snippet Master CMS?
Ray, the editor portion of that CMS is open source code not written by
me... my code doesn't mess with that at all... so one would need to wait
for that editor to get an update. And actually, my code can be modified
to work with other editors, as well, in case you find one you like better.
