    Default Error Sending

Getting errors uploading files from a couple of my sites. Anybody have
any insight as to what might be causing this or what I should look at?

Try passive mode checked in the Advanced FTP under Advanced button settings
    of Publish Settings.

Server-side settings? There's usually limits set on size of uploads or
    destination directories for instance...

Re-read your post; I assumed you meant you have an upload option on your
site(s) that aren't behaving? If not, see Andrew's answer <g>

That was already checked on the 2 sites in question but I tried
unchecking it and uploading. Then setting it back and uploading again.
Still getting errors during the upload but only with certain sites.
Dropping back thru different backups makes no difference. Any other ideas?

Are these sites on the same server? Or are you uploading to different
    servers?

Try uploading a test file (using something like Filezilla) to check; if
that works then your workaround for now would be to Local Publish the
sites & transfer using Filezilla (etc).
