It seems that Brightcove may be the answer for delivering video content
(and I presume, Flash slideshows). Anyone know what kind of browser
support there is for Brightcove - on their site they mention it's ready
for html5 but that doesn't help much now. What's the alternative to
flash to re-create all our flash galleries so they can be seen now in
all current web browsers and in the near future on iPad?

Ok belay that last post. Brightcove, although it looks very good, is a
hosted bureau solution and much to expensive for this little bunny. I
am worried, though, as many of my clients are early adopters and I can
image will buy iPads as soon as they're available here in Oz. I need to
find a solution for the gallery situation asap (and I know about jquery
but it's far too long-winded a process; I need an app I can point to a
folder of images and have the gallery generated automatically,
preferably without a whole bunch of 'skin stuff' to get in the way of a
plain vanilla insert into an iframe).

    Time to get investigating.

Interesting! Thanks Tim. I'd thought about JAlbum - and more
particularly Fotoplayer which is essentially a skin for JAlbum with a
lot of additional functionality - but for some reason was under the
impression it generated flash. Guess I'd better take another look :-)

    cheers

I do a lot of media for clients so I've been looking into solutions for
    this.
For slideshows, use I use CSS or jQuery.

Video For Everybody (VfE) uses a combination approach:

HTML5 for browsers that support the new <video> tag,
Open Format (OGG video) for Mozilla,
QT (MP4 video) for iPhones, iPads, Safari, Chrome et al

If Flash is present without QT, Flash player is used.
If QT is present without Flash, QT player is used.

    See the details and demo
