    Default Searchable Member Directory

I'm building a memebership directory and need to be able allow site visitors who go to that page to search by business names or relatable terms (ie real estate). I would like the listing to either resort within the page with those meeting the criteria to come to the top OR come up in a pop up window. From that listing I would like the user to be able to click on said member name and be directed to their listing info. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to do this withn NetObjects V12 or reccomend third party add-on or vendor. Thanks

You need a database, I use <a href="http://www.softidiom.com">4D Site Designer</a>, it plays well with NoF static pages and lets me do all the dynamic stuff without coding. For small databses it will publish to a csv file, for larger jobs, it will publish to mySQL.

Just design your NoF site, drag and drop 4D components onto it and you're done.

    Thank you for the information!

I will check into it now and hopefully find ut...

But do you know if 4D Site Designer might also do the job if it's also
working on a PHP capable web host's server ?

    Thank you again.

    Hi Joe,

You won't need to worry about php with 4D.

The only requirements for 4D are

4DSite Designer works with nearly all hosting providers. All you need is an account that gives you the ability to execute custom CGI scripts. Many ISPs now provide this ability as part of their core offering.

You do not need to have a separate FTP program to upload files or any knowledge of file destinations as 4DSite Designer will work all of this out for you and publish your site automatically.

What your ISP account will need is:

    - A web server with permissions that allow you to run custom CGI scripts
    - Perl, Version 5.6 or above
    - A minimum of 20MB of disk space per website

You can also set up your own server (Windows, Unix, Linux, etc.) see Configuring your own Web server for 4DSite Designer for details.

The requirements are the same for running your own server. It can all be configured for no cost, e.g. Apache web server (free), Perl (free).

Many sincere thanks for the 4DSite information.

After discussing 4DSite with the author... my and I told others concern
with it is that whether it be the Standard or Pro versions, many, myself
included, feel that the product is simply too expensive for many, if not
most new-to-intermediate level website users / creators.

The author is willing to research the pricing, and we shall see what
    develops.

Yes, it's agreed that quality does indeed cost...but this seems too
much, at least at this time?

Joe - would love to hear your results. This sounds like a great option if
the price were just a little easier to accept..

Thanks for all the great information. Do you have a site where you have used this that we could look at.

At aroun d $700 US I think its a bargain. 1 or 2 sites and you'll have paid for it, easily. In fact, a well formed eCommerce site should probably sell for around $2000, IMHO, so pay for it in one hit.

There are over 600 components that you just drag n drop to your NoF pages.

There is a fully working 30 day trial (not something NO offers) so you can put it through its paces. The trial does everythinge xcept publish to a remote server, but it does come with a built inserver for local testing.

Thanks for the info.. and the link to the components. When I see the
possibilities, it could definitely pay for itself in the long run,
especially with drag and drop functionality into NOF. Great resource!

    Default Are there other options?

While the 4D program looks to be good, we do not have 700+ in the budget for this single site project. Is anyone aware of similar options at lower cost? Thanks
