v9 - 10

Hi guys,

Were any of you NOT using v.9 (with update), and now going to try v.10?

I've mentioned before about my reluctance to get into v.9 (not sure
why), but wondering if I should play around with it more seriously
before I do v.10?

Silly me for even asking though - I know I'm probably just going to jump
into 10.

Hi Kitty

I buy them all but have been developing in 7.5 until very recently. I like
it.

Ten feels completely different. It took me five hours to find out how to
apply a CSS text style - that's how much it's changed.

I always buy Fusion - it's a tradition in my family so I bought this, but
it is taking some getting used to. I didn't beta test so it is all a shock.
It has a huge amount of new stuff, most of which is entirely relevant to
taking the product forward, but kind of irrelevant to me, who chews the end
of her Intuos pen and sticks paper designs on her screen to see what size
the graphic should be - sometimes. How will it be for designers who like to
eat peppers while they work?

I am a designer not a coder, and this is squarely for coders. I say this
about all programs! I am definitely a geek, but a visual geek. I might spend
an hour measuring something against the golden mean, or against a color
scale but the mere thought of PHP makes me go and lie down for a long time.
This is a fault in my programming, not Fusion's.

So it is very good - Jeffrey Zeldman would welcome the changes. And if you
are very into CSS designing in Topstyle or the like, you will feel at home.
But it is very difficult for a visual designer like me to start seeing
things from the back end. I am not levelling criticism at Fusion but at the
world, really. We want to do everything by numbers and not from the heart or
imagination. And for what? I spend half my life waiting for web pages to
load from some back end or another, whatever program they were designed in,
something that NEVER happens to me when I access your pages on the internet!
Having had a web site since 1996, I struggle to see the progress at times. I
click out of some of the most expensive sites in the world, because they are
slow and I am too darned busy. There are more abandoned shopping carts on my
PC than in any city river.

So ask me in a couple of months. I think I will like it a lot. I can see the
point of most of the changes. I am going to make my next site in 10, because
that is the best motivator for learning a new program.

I had hoped for a blog tool - clients ask for blogs now, not traditional web
sites. If there is a blog tool perhaps someone could let me know where.

There is a Flash photo gallery which is interesting. There are also some
graphics tools, which might not help us so much but will really help others.
The sitestyle makers are there, also, but I haven;t checked them out yet. I
couldn't figure them out before so used to design from the SiteStyle itself.
Perhaps there will be better instructions or a movie and I will be
converted. They certainly are an excellent idea.

You know you will buy it and you will probably love it, especially as you do
much more web design than I do nowadays.
