Responsive solutions with NOF

Thanks Franko <<historically there have been major releases every two years. 2017 >> by then Responsive solutions for mobile will be completely different than TODAY! The mobile will be Holographic as it is in the US Military and as it is currently used publicly in South Korean and China using projections onto walls mostly in dark rooms of course. In any case NOF will again be not 2 years behind the curve but about 10 years late. Sorry, but German ownership of NOF shows no progress with NOF releases, perhaps they need a boost from the South Koreans, then we can really have a lost in translation scenario. I'm amazed that NOF has survived this long with it not being up to date!

I tend to agree with your point about technology. Web technology is evolving and developing so rapidly that no east to use, wysiwyg drag and drop program is going to keep up. If you want a leading edge web site then the simply truth is you're going to have to invest a lot of money in a multi-skilled team which, of course, is what the corporate multinationals do. The most the ordinary small business owner can hope to do is to have a functional web site that as best as it can meets the needs of its customers.

Unfortunately, the niche for the small web designer/developer is rapidly being squeezed out. It's just not possible any more to be expert in all of the necessary technologies. More and more we're going to have to specialise in one area and become an expert in that. The do-everything kind of program like NoF simply cannot keep up with everything and the gap is only going to increase.

I feel it unfair to reproach NetO not to be supportive. I can think of many instances in which Adam, Mike, Etienne, even Steve the boss himself supported users in these forums. Also they attend promptly to support tickets as far as I know.

Hardly any question goes remains unanswered here and supporters are definitely competent.

As for the rest. .. let's hope for the best. I am sure the company is intensively looking for solutions.

NB. NetO is not a German company and the documentation is not a translation. However, the absence of a manual is a real problem for users, I fully agree on that.

I would strongly support an update to the two pdf manuals that came with NoF up to v11, especially the Getting Started guide with it's demo web site construction. That was brilliant and well ahead of anything any other software company was doing at the time. However, I guess it's a question of resources and where do you invest your dollars. Netobjects is not Adobe. It's not even Corel. It has a darn good product for what is a relatively small company in the space.
