Thread: Upgrade to 2015: Some Problems

Default Upgrade to 2015: Some Problems

We finally upgraded to 2015 from NOF9. Loaded a template from 9 and it loaded fine. We're set for 4.01 w/tables and UTf8. Some glitches, and broken links as can be expected. But here are two problems that we cannot solve:

    1. Text styles. We have a number of styles for links, linked, hover etc. They are erratic, sometimes display properly, most of time not. We have always added a style to the link html inside the link as class="xxx". Obviously this no longer works this way in 2015, no matter which html output (html5, etc.) we use. Deleted and rebuilt some of the styles. No change. Can someone steer us to the proper procedure?

    2. Slow navigation and many "not responding" messages. We've done all the things to clean up the file and followed all the tips we could find in other threads. We've uninstalled and reinstalled 2015 3 times. I don't mind the "slow" but the "not responding" is excruciating. What else can we do before sending 2015 back to Steve R.?

    Windows 10, 8G ram, Java91, installed 2015 per defaults.

    Thank for your help.

Did you go throuht the full cycle export from Version 9?

If not it might be quicker to clean up your #9 datafile and start with a clean file in the new product

More detail on the clean up process

Once you get your project cleanly in the new product you may want to get rid of all your inline formatting (how do I know you have inline formatting.... is the sun shining?)

    THEN

Create a single CSS file and only use the CSS formatting options

Thanks for your response Mike. Of course we did a full cycle export from 9. We've been doing this for 16 years, from NOF3 to 9. Never a problem other than minor glitches and broken links. Let me explain: This a 50-page magazine now in its 17th year of publication with 194,000 readers worldwide. Given its design and structure we've never had any need to change our NOF software to something else other than upgrades to newer versions. As incredible as it may sound, NOF9 still works for us in Windows10 with the 100+ workarounds we've developed to keep it functional. 50 pages of text with different fonts, different colors, different alignments, etc., even pages in other languages such as Thai. I understand what you're suggesting, but I don't see how we could eliminate inline formatting. We have 5 other websites, all created with NOF9. When we test templates from them, we don't experience these problems, other than the fact 2015 runs slower. What I'm asking is: With this magazine template, why do our text styles (class="xxxx" inside of links) not function? Does 2015 require a different procedure as opposed to the way it has applied text styles to links before? And why does 2015 operate so much slower?

Can you post a URL for a page with a problem?

If you do not have anything live from 15 you can make a test folder via your remote publish then post a URL

Seeing how the code looks, seeing the css that the class calls all will be helpful to get your answer

You can apply a class using a div, a span, or within the html tag. Looking at a page's source code will let me know how you are applying your class. Once I see how the code is written I can work it backwards to know how and what you did in the Fusion program to get that type of code.
