While in Fusion check for updates. If none are available, you have the latest version.

I cannot get ftp publish to work on version 12 win7. I test the connection and says successful but when I connect to ftp site, it is really, really slow (says not responding) and when it does connect it does not show the site directory structure.

Log on to your hosting account using a FTP program and see where you placed the files. You should be able to move them to the proper location with any FTP program

Personally I have always done a Local Publish and checked my site changes before uploading to the production server. Then, when I am satisfied, I'll use Filezilla (you can use any FTP program) to upload the site changes. I have never use the inbuilt ftp program in NoF (or any other program). Prefer dedicated apps; the tend to work better.
