Thread: Integrating a blog

    Default Integrating a blog

I can NOT believe how HOT blogs are. Personally I think they're over rated
in many situations (and great in others). That said, I'm aware of many of
the options out there. And I know I can use an iframe to integrate any one
of them. What I'm wondering is if anyone has researched which one(s) offer
the easiest/best customizations that would make for easy embedding in an
iframe. In other words, I need to be able to remove as much branding as
possible and set the width and make it as plain black text on white
background as possible so it won't compete with the site style it's imbedded
into. I have one client who's already set herself up using blogger and she
doesn't seem to mind having a totally different url for it. It bugs the heck
out of me to have it not integrated into the site. Call me old-fashioned!

Any thoughts and tips greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sheila

    Hi Sheila,

I can't see the furvor over blogs myself but they seem to be hot. A friend
of mine likes this one: http://www.sixapart.com/typepad/features It's not
a freebie but it looks like they give you the ability to customize the
background / header / and trailer to match your site. Might be an option.

I like WordPress at wordpress.org. The most custom blog out there with
    thousands of styles and plugins.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think either of those blogs will
allow you to do what you are asking for. And it's amazing, too, because
what you want is what most of us want... a simple way to incorporate
basic blog functionality into an existing site without all the
hyper-functionality that is common to most modern blogs... and within a
structure that allows us to smoothly integrate it within the context of
our NOF-designed site. (Are the entrepreneurs listening?) Although I
can't comment on Sixapart, I wasn't able to do this with WordPress or
TypePad or Blogger. I've love to hear if anyone else has found a
reasonably easy solution for this, but so far my only success was been
to create my own blog. I've done it with PHP and simple text files and
also with PHP and a MySQL database. I know... those ugly acronyms pop
up once again. But sooner or later, Sheila....

    Hi Lawrence,

Yep it's something I have been looking at too <s> Just like Sheila I want to
simply bring the blog - which operates as a separate entity to the main site -
into an iframe on one of my main NOF web site pages.

As I mentioned in my post about the teleprompter, I am now moving into software
development with an associate programmer, and integrating a blog into Fusion is
something we are working on at the moment. So I'll post on this soon; one
solution is one the way <s> Incidently we are also working on a simple
"membership" web site solution too. One that - without all the backend database
stuff - allows specific clients to log into their own specific areas rather
than just allow all members access to the same content.

Laurence...thanks for confirming my suspicions that the main ones won't do
what I was hoping. Don't hold your breath on me taking the leap to php &
mysql. I never say never... but it's close on that one.

Peter...I'd be happy to beta test for you! I hope your new offerings will be
    ready soon.

    Thanks all.

I wish Peter the best of luck, but the problem with writing one of these
things is similar to what I ran into with my little CMS system. It's
works extremely well and it's very easy for me to add it to new
websites... but to try to market it in a way that it fits all people on
all servers all the time... well, that's were you run into varying
server platform and configuration issues and permissions and other
matters that are generally quite simple to handle on a case by case
basis, but not so easy to anticipate in a once-size-fits-all $15
solution. I'm going to write you off-list. Stay tuned.

I think that wordpress is the most custom blog and they give you the
files, and then you can edit the files, CSS and PHP and XHTMLl, just
edit the files to say and look like you want. that is what I am doing.

thanks Micah. Do you have a link to your implementation via NOF yet?

I actually have not implemented it with NOF, but have been playing with
it, and the address is blogger.creationtidbits.com. It comes with style
sheets and pages and you can make it as custom as you want, I have seen
no limits as of now. They even have a plugin to make it ecommerce.
Every feature in it you can edit. Just my take.
