Thread: Estate Agency software? (Real estate)

Default Estate Agency software? (Real estate)

I have a customer (UK) who runs a property sales business. He wants a
website in which he can manage the content (stock details)
himself without any input from me once the site is up and running. I think
Npower would be too much for this occasion - he's really wanting just a
browser based approach to add text and images, without too many options. I'm
not sure if a straightforward text-area system would be enough, as the
initial listings pages would be linked to separate details for each
    property.

Anyone any suggestions for a ready made PHP/MySQL cms system, or one which
    would suit real estate/property sales?
I know there are plenty of database experts on here, but I'm not one of
them, so I'd rather use a plug-in option.

    thanks,

    Ken

I have been searching for a similar solution for one of my clients and
have found several packages ranging from open source to quite reasonable
in price to quite expensive. I am still continuing with the research -
filtering out most promising before studying these in more detail.

I will post some information here for you but it might not be today or
    even by the weekend.

Thanks OC, - Listings manager looks like the sort of thing I'm after, but
that particular one seems to be licensed for each site, which may make it a
    bit expensive for my purposes.
Anton H, if you discover anything useful I'd be interested. I've already
scoured Google but only found a handful of expensive ones up to now, apart
from Open Reality which doesn't seem to fit my needs.

I may look at some of the open source/cheaper shopping cart progs - after
all, my main needs are a 'product' listings page which links to more
detailed property details. Just the 'Buy Now' buttons would have to go....!

So that OC show really stands for Other Chuck! I get it now.

If all he wants to do is manage the contents of the site, a web based
interface with a mysql database could be done with phpMyAdmin. There
would be a bit of a learning curve, but that is true with almost anything
unless you build it yourself with only the features your client needs.

    Ken:
You're correct that Interactive Tool's products (ListManger, etc) are
licensed per site. I just want to vouch for their value. I use their Page
Publisher for CMS. They install it so no fuss, no muss. They're there for
tech support. They actually answer their phones and know the answers. Your
client should be absorbing the cost of the solution so that shouldn't be a
reason not to use them. I highly recommend all their products.

    Thanks for the feedback Sheila.
I do like the look of the software, and as you say the customer foots the
bill eventually. It's not even particularly expensive at this moment, as our
exchange rate is currently running about 2:1 US Dollar/UK pound !
I would just prefer something I could just buy once, then use on several
sites as needed - it's not as if it's a service hosted on Interactive's
    servers.
After all, we don't have to buy an extra copy of NetObjects every time we
    design a new site ;-)

    Ken,

Here's another one that is similar to Page Publisher, (
http://toko-contenteditor.pageil.net/page006.shtml ) only buy once and use
on unlimited sites. I would suspect that based on price and open
licensing, support may be an issue, but only guessing on my part. I
know the support from Interactive Tools is top notch and well worth the
price of admission. If you opt for this one please let us know how it
works as I've been curious but didn't want to $pring for it.

Additionally you might want to consider a database option (MySQL & PHP).
You could do this on your own and once you have it designed and implemented
just plug it into other like sites. No cost to you other than your time :

    Hi Chuck,

The Toko editor I'd looked at earlier (I haven't tried it yet), and it looks
like a good method for single-page edits, but no built in facility to link
to a full detail page from listings - unless I've missed something? There's
a good possibilty I'll try it in the near future, and if so I'll let you
    know the results.
One I did find which almost fits exactly (may need a little editing of
    template pages) is
http://www.listingagent.ca/ ; the Listing Agent RE option. Licensed by site
    again, but much cheaper.

Your suggestion of a php/database option is one which I must explore, as I
have the facilities at hand but not presently the knowledge. In other words,
I can set up a php forum no problem, but haven't dipped into the shallows,
never mind the depths, of php programming.

    Ken,

For $49 / site you almost can't go wrong. Looks like that's all they do so
go with what they do best.
