Thread: Pointing at someone else's Child

Default Pointing at someone else's Child

    How to explain this...

I have a Nav bar with the following: | HOME | ABOUT US | EVENTS | among
others. All other sub-pages below these are on flyouts. Under "EVENTS" there
    is a Registration form.

I would also like have a flyout from the "ABOUT US" to point to the
Registration form, since it will also be used as a general Contact form.

Is there a way to add a flyout button to the Nav Bar to point to someone
    else's Child Page?

I could brute force it by duplicating the form page and putting a copy under
ABOUT US as well as EVENTS, but am hoping something more elegant can be
    done.

    Hope that's clear.

    Thanks.

I think I see what you talking about.
All you have to do is click on your nav bar, then on the properties click
the "Add Page" button and add the page you want.

Unless I'm misunderstanding your suggestions, this just adds the page link
    to the main Nav Bar.

I'm trying to add it as a flyout from a different parent.

Maybe a picture... I have this for my Nav Bar:

    | HOME | ABOUT US | EVENTS |

Hovering over "EVENTS" produces this flyout:
    | HOME | ABOUT US | EVENTS |
    |
    Registration (Flyout from "EVENTS")

And I would like to also have this when hovering over "ABOUT US":
    | HOME | ABOUT US | EVENTS |
    |
Registration (Flyout from either "EVENTS" or "ABOUT
    US" linking to same page)

Or perhaps I could have a "dummy" child page under "ABOUT US" that redirects
to the "Registration" page. Is that possible?

This is something that I ran into before, where I essentially wanted to have
a single "child" with two "parents" so that the secondary navigation buttons
under each would go to the same page on the site. Last time I just
duplicated the entire page, but this seems a little inelegant.

Then this way should do it. Open the Nav bar properties, and then change
the Nav Bar to "Custom". Then put your main pages, then after that, click
the About Us page in the Custom Properties, and then add the Registration
under it, then do the same for the Events tab.
That should work. If you cannot figure it out, I will send a screenshot.

Thanks for trying to help, Micah. I tried the "Custom Nav Bar", but it seems
to just add to the main nav bar. I can't see how to add something to a
    flyout.

I've put the site online, so if you want to take a look at it you may better
understand what I'm trying to do.

I copped out and just created a page called "CONTACT US" with a link to go
to the form. I can change it once I figure out exactly how, but it was
important to get the site up. In a week or so, it will move to a proper host
so I'll have more options in terms of script support, etc.

I've run into a bunch of weird menu behavior on this little quest. I'll
spare the details for now -- it's probably old news for the vetrans around
    here. ;-)

If you want to check it out, it's at www.amonavi.com
If you check "ABOUT US", there will be a flyout with a "CONTACT US" option.
Also for "EVENTS" there is a "REGISTER" flyout. Ultimately I'm trying to
have BOTH of these go to the same page, but since the "REGISTER" page is
under "EVENTS" in the site structure, I can't seem have a link under a
    different nav button.

I'm going to post to the "New-Sites" discussion, and try to get some general
    feedback before doing some tweaks.

    Thanks, again.

Could you send me a template of the site? I will look at it and see if I
can set it up for you. I have done it many times myself.

Ray, you would have to make a second custom nav bar. Or another approach
would be to copy the registration form page (in site view Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V
to paste). Then rename that page Contact_Us_2. Delete the old Contact Us
page (the one with the button link) and then change Contact_Us_2 to
    Contact_Us. Make sense?

Default Re: Pointing at someone else's Child

    Thanks, Nancy.

So basically, your second suggestion is to duplicate the form on another
page, yes? In this case I suppose it wouldn't be a big deal.
Once it's up on a proper host, I'll probably create two separate forms using
    the scripting features of NOF.

I was hoping to learn how to link to a single child page from a page which
is not the parent according to the site structure. It's something I've run
into before, and I'd really like to suss this out for future reference. In
this particular case where I'm trying to have this appear on a flyout has me
stumped. I've tried several approaches of custom nav bars, but I can't seem
to get anything satisfactory. I can't seem to find how to customize a flyout
    on the nav bar.

Micah, thanks for your offer. You should be getting a "YouSendIt"
notification with a stripped down template file of the site.
Perhaps if I see how it's done the lights will go on. ;-)

I will see if I can do it for you, then I will explain how if I figure it
out. The reason I think I might not be able to do it is if I misunderstood
    what you wanted.
