Ohh, Garret, please don't be too hard on those who don't know.

If everyone was well-educated about food-production issues we'd all be
vegetarians, or periodically heading out into the toolies to kill our own,
organic meat. I think, in this case, that the overall ignorance is the
    lesser of evils.

(periodically heading out into the toolies to kill our own) Do you mean
hunting? If so, then there are over 15 million who do that every year,
including me. The meat is much better.

I was trying not to have to do that, but I think I have to agree, it needs
    to be done.

Doing it yourself, you can clean it up, add some drop shadow or texture
or transparency or lighting effect or whatever... and get it looking
just like you want it. And after you come up with the look that you
like, it would only take about 10 minutes to make a full set of 6 or 7
banners and drop them on the pages. It's way too easy to become seduced
by NOF's great automatic features and to overlook doing it the
old-fashioned way which, in some cases, can yield a much better result.
Use auto-generated buttons and masterborder banners whenever you
can... but if it's not exactly what you want, don't be afraid to forgo
those tools and employ the ones best suited for the job.

Absolutely! Without all the growth hormones and antibiotics fed to
domestically raised food animals, the meat is much more vitamin-rich and
unlikely to contain carcinogens and other nasties that we don't need to be
eating. You can't even compare the taste of wild game to slaughterhouse
meat, and I think it does have something to do with the way the animals are
raised and killed-- an unexpected bullet to the head or heart is a much
kinder kill than the alternative. And then there's diseases like Mad Cow,
that could never happen if we practiced natural selection.

But, imagine if there were 300 (rather than 15) million people hunting for
their food... it would be chaos, it would be the cause of unimaginable
numbers of wounded animals and accidentally shot people, pets and Jersey
cows. This is what I meant by the lesser of evils. On another level, in my
heart of hearts I wish that everyone who ate meat had to kill their own, so
that they had to own the responsibility of taking a life. You know that I'm
an atheist, but I would probably be Buddhist if I could get my head around
that reincarnation thing, because they respect all life.

That said, I don't eat beef and I haven't shot a deer for over 30 years, but
I would never refuse a nice venison dinner. To further prove myself a
hypocrite, I buy chicken to eat at the grocery store, and at every
opportunity I'll throw live prawns to their death into a pot of boiling
water. But, I gave up fishing because it broke my heart every time I had to
bonk a salmon over the head to kill it, and rather than kill an insect (or
rodent!) in my house, I'll capture it and put it outside.

Ack!! Is there a counsellor in the house?

Okay, to do that, I would have to pretty much rip the site apart, and I am
not sure the text is worth it... But how does the text look now? It is a
    little better.

Please correct me if I'm doing this wrong, but to use my own banners and NOF
automation, I create only one banner in a graphics program, then simply link
to the image from the Banner section on the Style page. Ditto for buttons.

To use your own banner AND NOF automation, yes. In the prior post,
however, I was proposing to use one's own banner and forgo the automation.

It looks better. If better is good enough, move on. But if you
characterize "ripping the site apart" as a difficult task, you're
forgetting that you've got NOF on your side. To achieve something
similar to the image below, you would simply remove NOF's banner, slide
the masterboarder handle up to the top, and then move content down on
each page to allow you to place the newly created banners above. This
is a simple and repetitive task... the kind of thing we do all the time
when building sites. Don't be afraid to make it the way you want it.
