    Default upgrading from NOF 7

This is probably a stupid question, but if I upgrade to 10,
then I'll lose my version 7 completely right? So I would then be
forced to convert my website over to 10 as well? which sounds like
    a difficult and stressful task.

Also, I bought Namo 2years ago, and it is stifling my creativity! I haven't
even designed 1 page on it because my artistic brain doesn't want to design
from left to right! Anybody hate this program more than me? I feel like I
    thew away $100.
Can I use perl scripts with NOF 10, or is that a server issue?
    Thanks

    Rhonda,

Each version installs in it's own folder. So, no... you won't lose 7.

Perl is a language that is installed on many (most?) web servers. It's used
    for CGI programming.

If you know how to implement Perl scripts, Fusion will have no problem with
    you doing so.

Thanks Chuck, I hope you at least got to watch the Superbowl while helping
    all of us here!
Basically, what I want to do is keep using 7 for my old site, and use 10 for
my new sites. So you're saying that I WILL be able to do that at the upgrade
price, I don't have to pay for the "full" version?
Just a thought, do you think 11 will be worth waiting for?

    Rhonda,

    Yes... just finished watching the giants beat the Patriots. (-;

You can continue to use 7 for existing sites or migrate them into 10 by
exporting a template from 7 and making a new site in 10. Your choice.

10 does have significant improvements over 7. Not the least of which is
producing w3c compliant code. If you care about that sort of thing.

You've missed 7.5, 8 and 9 already. 10 includes the improvements in those
    and more.

You only need to purchase the upgrade, not the full version. Upgrades in
Fusion-speak *are* full programs... with the only difference between the
Upgrade and Full versions being that with the Upgrade, you need a previous
(and qualifying) version installed already.... or at least have you serial
    number(s) handy.

11 is still a ways off. I don't know officially, but public statements of
WSP seem to indicate end of Q1 or beginning of Q2 2008.

Thanks so much, I'm finally going to upgrade! Yey for me!!!
Of course, that just means I'll be back on the discussion boards again, but
you guys are the best, there's always someone to help me here,....one more
    reason to stick with NetObjects.
    Thanks and good night............

Personally....IMHO, just find a free copy of 9 floating around.....I still
feel it is my responsibility to state that 10 is a piece of crap and I have
been upgrading since 4.0. 10 finally convinced me to switch mostly to
    dreamweaver......

    Rhonda,

If you upgrade to 10, be sure to immediately install its laterst update.

Some people had performance issues with the initial release.

I use 10 every day and, except for some known bugs (many people never
notice) that are being addressed, it's very stable and works well.

Others may have a vocal opinion to the contrary, but that's to be expected,
    I suppose.

I'd second chuck's opinion; whilst he may (on the face of it) have a
    slightly vested interest :-), I don't. I use 10 to maintain a site of
around 100 pages (growing steadily), having upgraded from 8. As Chuck
says, there were some issues in the early 10 (must admit, I didn't seem
to get them). It occasionally bites me (the odd crash, and if you ever
get a message about can't find a file when mucking around with CSS, save
and exit fast...), but on the whole it's never left me up sh*t creek, I
can produce a nice site quickly and - more importantly - it's pretty
straightforward to get 'under the covers' and hand code where necessary,
which I feel is crucial for a WSYIWYG style editor.

Of course, a big bonus is the community on these newsgroups, I've learnt
a lot about tweaking 10 by reading threads and asking the odd dumb
    question...

    Derek.

Thanks for the info! I think it's pretty obvious that being such a loyal
customer to one version(7) for 5years, that I will indeed be very happy with
    10. I think it's a big enough leap between versions that will be a benefit
to me. I'm not huge web designer, but I've reached the point that Namo(which
was affordable) and Dreamer(which is not) are just too overwhelming. I'm an
artist, so I need WYSIWYG plus the challenge of handling code for special
    projects.
Thanks for the response, now I just need to decide if I should ship it or
    download it,.....

One point that no one has said yet is that NOF 11 has been announced as
coming soon by marketing email. I have no idea when that will be, but I'd
hate for you to buy NOF 10 and then be faced with NOF 11 being released soon
    after.

Maybe someone in the know could let you know if that release will be sooner
    rather than later
