Default Copy paste from Microsoft Word

    Question for the day
In reading a book on improving seo for website I came across a article on
not copying and pasting directly from Microsoft word, that you should turn
the document into a html file before entering on web page. I have been using
MS Word for content writing then copy paste to Netobjects, any thought on
    this subject.
    Thanks Pete

In nutshell, do not EVER copy and paste fom Word! Or indeed export as html.

Export you text as a raw text - .txt file, then import that into NOF. This will
strip all the Word formatting and ensure you have clean text to start with.
Once in place format that in NOF as required.

If you must copy paste, drop the text into Notepad "en route" to remove al formatting.

    And as a further warning....

There are dozens of threads in the NG's about people who have destroyed
entire sites (& therefore lost days/weeks of work) by pasting directly from
Word. Word is particularly bad because it uses very complex formatting that
is incompatible with anything else. Even using "HTML" output from Word is
iffy - as it does not adhere to standards when producing "HTML". I put
quotes around "HTML" because it's so bad.

I'd also add that this includes pasting from any application (whether an MS
product or not). If you are even the least bit unsure, as Peter says, copy
from the app, paste into Notepad & then copy & paste from Notepad to NOF.

Yes this loses formatting - but that's exactly what you need to do - get
just the text & apply formatting in NOF.

It's perfectly fine to copy and paste to Notepad... and then copy and
paste to NOF... but not very efficient, since NOF can remove the Word
code for you automatically. In Page View, just click Edit | Paste
Special | Set Paste Default and then select Unformatted Text. This will
strip out all the unwanted stuff any time that you paste text. Set it
    once and forget it.

Absolutely agreed. And it's not just NOF. Every application has
proprietary coding behind the scenes. When you copy, it comes along for
the ride. It takes a lot less time (and hairpulling) to paste clean text
than it does to sort out the problems when they arise. BTW, I
accidentally brought Word coding in when pasting from an email that I
thought was plain text. You can't be too careful with this stuff.

BTW, I rarely copy & paste directly even between Word docs. Too many
"interesting" experiences (insert smiley for "gritting teeth").

That is the way I always do it and have never had any problems. I am
wondering why questions on this subject always result in instructions
to "export" the text into html or to fo through "word pad". Does the
feature in NOF to simply paste as "Unformatted Text" not work properly
without going through those added steps?

    Hi Charles

I suppose in my case it's an old DTP thing. Running PC original Pagemaker docs
to a Mac based Postscript image setter you had to be very careful about all
aspects of handling fonts. So "dipping" Word generated copy into a Notepad
"bath" en route to a publication has become second nature to me and I can be
sure all text formatting has been removed.

Since you reckon it works ok, I'll try the NOF method suggested.

It's always worked for me, not only in all the versions of NOF I've used,
but a handy idea in many other programs with a similar feature.

I think most people got in the habit of pasting into NotePad first (I still
do) because it was 100% guaranteed to work. OTOH if you'd not changed your
defaults or hit the wrong paste option in NOF you could get a nasty
surprise as all the MS formatting trashed your NOD file...

Sometimes paranoia is worth the extra step to sleep better at night<g>.
