Last night while I was watching the progress bar trickle through while
publishing (up to 5 hours)I looked at the windows resource monitor in vista.
I couldn't believe that it was stuck at a solid cpu 100% usage.
When I cancelled the publish it was still at around 60% all the time. It
was being hogged by google desk top. On googling it one theory is it
seems that google is constantly checking files and zips and if there is
a corrupt zip anywhere on your pc it keeps trying to look inside and
keeps busy. (one theory on the net)
I uninstalled it and cpu was about 5% and when I published NOF it went
to about 55% and published in TWO MINUTES, unbelievably fast for me.
I don't know whether that caused my crashing as well. I tried cutting,
pasting etc. and the cpu was spiking up to 50% so whether that and
google hogging would cause probs I don't know.
I feel much happier now, by the way I didn't twig this earlier because
while NOF was struggling publishing I could still use the pc for other
things albeit slower so didn't think it was extraordinary.
BTW my pc is a decent spec dual core 2 mb ram and it does seem to run
slicker now.
Hope this helps someone else.
