    Default Version Manager Problems

Note: there are a few people having this problem -- myself included -- I
reposted this from the Npower group to try to get more exposure to it since
the problem is actually in the NOF program.

    ========================

I set the site options from the versioning tab,
selecting my ftp publish profile and # of site versions to 5
and space for the site versions to 10 megs and press ok

When I reopen the site options and go to the versioning tab, all enties are
    blank.

I have tried it over and over, I press ok, even press save right after.

I can publish the site, but the version manager button is disabled no matter
    what I do

If I go back to the site options dialog, the entries I just set are blank

Anwers to common questions that you might ask me....

    1) Yes, I can publish the site, but the version manager button is disabled

    2) Yes, the FTP connection is working and set up propperly

    3) Error when pressing the File - Versions Manager - Button text is below

    ************
A connection to the version manager could not be established. A connection
to the version manager must be established to check for the latest version
of this site and to access other important features.

Only the publish settings in my template work for me. If I create a new one
in the old template or create a new one in a brand new 9.0 site, they won't
    work. hmmm......

Is it a site newly created in 9 or migrated from an earlier version of
    fusion?

If the latter, have you tried creating a new publish profile and making it
    the primary for versioning purposes?

(rather than using a remote publish profile created in the previous versioon
    of Fusion)

yes it is a migrated site... the VM did work for a while when it was first
migrated, then it stopped all of the sudden.

also, there are no Coolmaps components on the site, and none of the coolmaps
plugins have been installed into NOF9

I have tried clearing all of the profiles and re enter them... still doesnt
    work.

any other ideas or info you need?

OK I'll "pipe up". I have also posted in the nPower groups. I'm have the
same problem and was just waiting for someone to answer these threads,
but no solution seems to be forthcoming. I could really use this
function as it is the main reason I upgraded. It sounds really slick, if
    only it worked.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled NOF9 and NP.... and tried all of this
    again as follows...

I just took the same site I was having problems with the VM on and opened
the original in NOF 8. I removed all unused items (links, files,
masterborders, etc...) I also removed all non-NOF components. Re-optimized
the site... Published it to a tem directory. Everything works... so far. I
then copied the folder for the NOF 8 dir, and pasted it in the NOF 9 Sites
    folder.

I opened the "pasted" NOF 8 file in NOF 9 - it gave me the standard "do you
want to make a copy..." message. Since I have the original NOF 8 site, I
let it convert it to Ver 9. I tested a publish, and it worked. I tested the
VM and it worked also. The button was not greyed out, and everything
    worked. for a while....

I replaced the buttons that I deleted while it was open in NOF 8, verified
that VM worked and it published. I verified the files and links, and then
POOF.... VM quit working again. the button is greyed out and I am now back
    at stage one.

I can publish it but the VM doesnt work anymore.

This is a bit troubling since I have about 30 sites I maintain, and about
half of them I setup each client with a WS-FTP Hotdrop to a folder on the
clients site. I have made referenced HTML on the sites. that way they can
edit a file with Word and drag it to the Hatdrop icon. That lets them
update certian pages on thier site by themselves.

I am wery to spend the time to rebuild thier sites in NOF 9, just to have to
do it again when the VM quits working for some mysterious reason.

There are several people that this is happening to, so it is not a fluke in
    my site.

If anybody else has had this happen, please "pipe up" and let WSP know.
Maybe they will do something, since it essentally disables 1/2 of the new
    additions.

Hey I got it to work, once. All I did was check and uncheck all of the
options in the Tools>Options>Curent Site>Verions tab then published
twice to the server with the Versions manager box checked and then I was
able to open the Version Manger. I was then able to create a new point.
I then exported the .nfc file. During all the time I was in the Versions
Manager the program appeared to create at least three different rollback
points? sluggish. I then attempted to open the site with nPower and it
said that it couldn't open it because there were no Rollback Points. lol
oh my here we go back to the same old buggy NOF. Since then I was unable
to get the version manager to open again.

    Disapointed I am

    Default Re: Version Manager Problems

This sounds exactly like my prob. I am able to publish, but not able to
connect to the version manager. For me too, this is the reason I purchased
    9.0.

you've found a bug because everything is gone. Please let me know when you

    Default Re: Version Manager Problems

May or may not be able to help here - We've just spent most of the day
working it out and it is BRILLIANT.

Have a look at NOF9 Version Control Manager at
    http://www.1ahost.co.uk/html/net_objects.html

It doesn't give you all the answers but it may help you to work it out. All
I have done is tried to quickly explain what we did to get it working on one
machine and then went to a different location and a different machine and
completely restored the web site to it.

Please don't be too critical it is a very quick attempt.
