Re: OT - Video Editing Software
if renaming fails, that means that the DVD maker has used dolby digital
audio with ac3 extension, I always use ac3 for DVD, ac3 is small in file
size and supported by all DVD players
mpg requires mpeg audio
you can demux the vob, this will give you a video file and an audio file,
the video file will then play when renamed to mpg
you can use Tmpeg 2.5 Plus to demux (free)

Re: OT - Video Editing Software
Ditto.
IT LIKE PINNACLE.
I've used it on multiple systems (small & large) for 6 years with no major
problems. Couldn't work without it!

Re: OT - Video Editing Software
I am a satisfied user of Pinnacle Studio 7,8,9, and 10 as well as Liquid
Edition. I've never had a stability problem with them. Then again, I have them
on a separate system and isolated from the rest of the crap that collects on a
system. So your mileage may vary when it comes to video editing.
Avid bought Pinnacle a few months back. Avid has already announced Avid Liquid
Edition Version 7.0.
This stuff is not free. You get what you pay for.

Re: OT - Video Editing Software
Try opening the file with WinDVD as that is how I view my .vob files.

Re: OT - Video Editing Software
Anton, thanks for the explanation: it makes perfect sense of what was
happening. Cheers!
Cracked the problem (in more ways than one) by using some ripper software,
DVD Shrink from www.dvdshrink.org. I ripped the .vob to an uncompressed .AVI
and went from there to .WMV's via Techsmith Camtasia Studio 3.

Re: OT - Video Editing Software
Studio 10 or 10+ is a total disaster. Just go to their web site and read
the user forum. The software was shipped before it was ready. This is
historical. Pinnacle has shipped version 8, 9, and 10 before their time. I
will never buy another Pinnacle product.
Sony Movie Studio + DVD, Platinum Edition is a work of art. I would
recommend that instead of Pinnacle Systems Studio products any day.
