Default Large site VERY slow gerenating pages

I have a 200 page site with over 11,000 assets that has been growing for 6 years. It has gotten slower and slower when it generates pages prior to upload. Even generating the entry page which is nothing but a little text is very slow. It also takes over 2 minutes to open up.

I have deleted all unused assets, verified assets and reoptimized the site many times. I had hoped that 9.0 might solve my problems but it is at least as slow if not slower. It takes over 3 minutes to generate a page before uploading. And even "save" takes 30 seconds.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Thanks, I remember a discussion on 7.5 where someone had a 350+ page site
and claimed it was very fast and had made some suggestions. I was hoping to
    hear from him again.

I don't have a clue what CMS is but I'll do some research. That is why I
have always loved NOF ... been building our web sites using it for years. I
hate writing html ... takes way too long.

    David,

i guess it's about time to think about a redesign of your website. As it has
been discussed a couple of times here in the forum, sites as big as yours
are not the best thing to do in NOF or any other tool that keeps track of
the whole website and its assets.
This is what server based CMS's are made for.
Another option whould be to split up your site a a couple of smaller sites
if those are more independent from each other.
Sorry, but there is not much you can do within NOF to scale down the
complexity of this tasks. To the excuse of NOF, I don't know of any client
solution on the market that does a better job of achieving the same task of
managing a website incl. all its assets without the same problems.
Bottomline is either move to a server solution (CMS or CMS like) or split up
the site into several managable and independent micro sites.
Is there an URL we can look at?

    Hi David,
Yikes! That would drive me crazy. First, I would try to reduce the number of assets in each NOD file by splitting the site up into several small NOD files. When a site gets that big, it takes up a lot of computer resources. Next, I would use a gif/jpeg optimizer like this one from NetMechanic to reduce image size. http://www.netmechanic.com/accelerate.htm

Ultimately, you may need to consider moving to a database driven site with PHP/SQL.

    Good luck,
    Nancy

    Hi all,
One of my sites is about 300 pages (and still growing) without counting générated stacked pages.
Yes I had some performance trouble in 7 when it was around 200 pages, but when I migrated to fusion 8 I removed all assets by changing assets directory. It then asked me for the new path to assets and I gave it a fresh directory with a fresh copy of optimized assets.
I also got the master border corruption symptom, and had to recreate the master border, I think that helped also to get back on good performance track
I did not changed anything for fusion 9 migration and it's still performing well.

I must confess at that time I also changed the way to use NOF: It was only used to generate page and navigation, in which I plugged ssi calls to a CMS program.
Now for sake of the new "bubble" design, I came back to full fusion without CMS, but with plenty of external HTMl (for random images, ...)

My personnal conclusion is to keep only needed assets : number of pages is not really a concern as far as all pages are designed the same way, with a minimum of assets

So today I have 297 published pages with fusion (without counting stacked). next week I will have 5 pages more. Site saves in around 5 to 6 seconds (I also upgraded to SATA drive) and, yes, takes about 3 minutes to generate and a good cup of coffee to transfer. But when you generate your site, don't you need a well-deserved rest ?
    Have a look at www.maigrir-plaisir.com/index.html

I had a similar issue with a site that had migrated from NOF7 onward.
    The site,
in the end, only had about 15 pages. It had, at one time, been about 60
    pages.
The nod file had grown to about 45MB. I re-optimized, deleted everything
    but about
10 images, all unused master borders, etc. and the thing was still over
    40MB and
very slow. In the end, I just rebuilt it from scratch in NOF9 and it now
    weighs in
    at a whopping 3MB :-)

Don't know why... so, if you have the time, I'd rebuild. You'll probably
    end up
saving the time it's taking to open and publish. Good luck.
