OT: great deal on a good graphics program
I know many NOF users have favourite graphics editing tools, but many do
not have anything beyond Windows "Paint" and the limited graphics
handling built into NOF.
To fill that vacuum, I am passing on a promotional e-mail from Corel,
about PaintShop Pro, which I paste below:
=========================
Rebranding Letter
Dear Karl,
My name is Doug Meisner and I am the Senior Product Manager of Corel
Paint Shop Pro. I want to thank you for being one of the "early
adopters" of Paint Shop Pro (PSP) in general - and of Corel Paint Shop
Pro X in particular. Although digital photography is only now reaching
its peak in the mass market, you are obviously someone who is ahead of
the curve.
As you have discovered by now, we have made some neat improvements to
the program. Things like the Object Remover, B&W and infrared conversion
filters, Makeover Tools, Smart Photo Fix, 16 bit support, improved
browser and layer palettes, etc.
One of the features we are most proud of is the new Learning Center.
While more advanced users like you may not have the need for such a
tool, we have found that it really opens up the power of PSP to a much
wider audience of users. Unlike the "Help" found in some other programs
(hello Photoshop!) or the wizards that lock you into a prescribed
workflow (can you hear me Microsoft?) the Learning Center opens up the
power of PSP without constraining the user.
In the last couple of months I have had a great time introducing some of
my friends and acquaintances to this easy-to-use power. I hope you are
interested in sharing this as well - perhaps some of your friends have
just got a fancy new camera for the holidays and want to do more with
their photos?
Please feel free to direct your friends to the link below which will
allow them to purchase PSP for only $69 which is $60 off the suggested
retail price! This is a hidden landing page not accessible to folks via
Corel.com - the only way your friends can get to it is through this link:
http://www.corel.com/hidoffer210
This offer expires on January 31, 2006. Hopefully you will be successful
in adding some more people to the PSP gang - and the Learning Center
will keep them from phoning you too often for advice!
Just for spreading the news, we are pleased to give you a 15% discount
off any purchase made at Corel's e-store between now and Feb. 28, 2006.
(Note that this discount cannot be used in conjunction with the special
Paint Shop Pro X offer at $69.)
Simply enter this code in all upper case letters box in the promotion
code box at checkout in the Corel e-store shopping cart: SECRTCOP597
Glad to have you aboard as a Paint Shop Pro customer! Thanks again.
Doug Meisner
Senior Product Manager

Re: OT: great deal on a good graphics program
Thanks Karl.
Thats a pretty good deal on PSPX. I have both Photoshop and PSPX, and I
use PSPX 90% of the time. Much easier, much faster, pretty much the same
power.
Those of you that do not have PSPX, GET IT! its worth it.

Re: OT: great deal on a good graphics program
Graphics tools are important for the designer, but I wouldnt jump in so
quick without considering Xara Xtreme for example, or even our own Super
Graphics Factory and Template Studio products.
Photoshop is the best of course, and at its price tag it should be, but its
a heavy beast to work with, and too much of a tool for the average user.
I often have designers asking me how to accomplish things in Photoshop and
Flash for that matter ... things easy to do in Paintshop Pro, Koolmoves,
Super Graphics, etc (tools that fall into the sub $99 price bracket).
I think the offer Karl highlighted is great, thanks Karl, if anyone asks me
about editors in the next few days I will send them to this thread.

Re: OT: great deal on a good graphics program
Thank you, Karl. Though I am a long-time PhotoPaint user and though I
will have to find my way to Photoshop out of professional reasons, I
think PaintShop Pro is an interesting product.
Peter
P.S. I know you don't offer this to us because you "need" to be "nice".

I've been using Xara for a few years now and it just keeps getting better
and better.
For web type graphics - I find that it is one of the best tools I've seen.
Just my $.02

I agree. PSP is excellent, and the offer is certainly worth
jumping on. But , with little exception, I only use PSP when
I have to manipulate specific pixels in a bitmap. Otherwise,
Xara covers most of my graphics needs, and does it very
quickly and very well.
I can also give kudos to KoolMoves, although SWiSHmax is
more appropriate for most of my flash needs.

Re: OT: great deal on a good graphics program
I agree about PSP i know photoshop is considered ''better'' or ''Pro'' but i
have a copy sat on the shelf, though its very powerfull its a pain in the
butt to use its the lowest value £500 i have ever blown. pound for pund PSP
and PI are far far better value., and Xara reigns supreme in Scalable
drawings.

Yes - PaintshopPro can do about 99% of what Photoshop can, and even works
with PSD files. Unless you are a die hard Adobe fan, or need very
advanced Adobe-centric functionality, PSPX is a much better way to go.
there are even tasks where PSPX beats Adobe in terms of speed and
simplicity.
Chris mentions another very fine tool - KoolMoves. Koolmoves is probably
the best $45 you can spend. Creating flash animations and interactive
movies doesnt get any easier than Koolmoves! Koolmoves also has a great
support community as well at www.flashkit.com
Two great apps every designer should have!
