Re: website intros...
Do you mean Flash landing pages? Pages that give you a "pretty" display for
a number of seconds and then trundle off to the main site?

Re: website intros...
I don't know if you saw the recent discussion on splash pages. If not,
search for the thread. In general, they're a bad idea for a number of
reasons:
1. they don't have content for search engines to index
2. they p*** people off
3. they serve no usefull purpose and as a result
4. they p*** people off
They're a mark of a graphic designer who's new to web communication
and hasn't had the opportunity or the interest to learn from people
who are experienced.

Re: website intros...
That's why I asked the question Franko, these landing or gateway pages can
be a major issue not only for search engines but for the surfer as well. I,
personally, don't like them and get a bit miffed when I am presented with an
extra page that I have to navigate.
There was a time when a landing page with an immediate autoforward was
considered useful because the search engines found them and analysed them
before going on to the main site but the surfer never saw them because of
the instant autoforward. I'm not so sure that they are useful any more.

Re: website intros...
1. This is NOT a landing page. The top will have full Navigation and the
bottom will have some content as well (current news about the business).
The middle will be an intro. (about 300x800)
2. The owner INSISTS on the intro. She does not care about the web
indexing. (although there will be meta tags)
3. The customer is difficult and I want to show her some examples of others
without having to spend hours and hours of time in a mockup.

Re: website intros...
I use Flash to put some simple animations on home pages when the client
insists. Here are some examples:
www.healthintegrationpartners.com/
http://tamaracwellness.org/
www.ocalasunrvresort.com/
Of couse, you need to have Adobe Flash to create these. There are also some
other flash creation tools that are less expensive. I have also used
Incrediflash Xtreme which has a easy learning curve: www.incrediflash.com/

I use SWiSHmax 2 from www.swishzone.com for most things flash. They also
have a lite version, SWiSH miniMax2
A lot of people like KoolMoves. www.koolmoves.com.
If you're just looking for text effects, there's VerticalMoon's
Textosterone. www.verticalmoon.com
I've done some good stuff with Goldshell's FlaX (text effects).

And there are many more at various price and feature points.
