Could not connect to www.
I have updated my site and proceded to publish only to recieve an error
message "NOF Could not connect to www.hillingdon-watch.org.uk". I went to
publish settings and pressed Test Connection and recieved the message
"Connection failed"
I was connected to the internet and could acces the site in Chrome. None of
the publish attributes had been changed. I tried rebooting but to no avail.
Any ideas???

This suggests a few possibilities;
1) Your provider's FTP service is down at the moment (or, if you're
using SFTP, the SFTP service)
2) Your provider has deliberately changed their file transfer service,
e.g. from FTP to SFTP
3) If you're using FTP, the service may have been changed to passive
rather than active - check the setting in the 'Advanced FTP' in the
Advanced panel for your publish profile
4) Your password has changed, either at the host end or in your NOF
publish profile
5) Your host password has changed, but you haven't changed the password
in your NOF publish profile
Try making a connection to the server using an alternative client (e.g.
Filezilla, WinSCP, Window's own FTP client - open a command window -,
CuteFTP...). You'll get a better indication of what's going on than in
the NOF 'test connection' option.

Re: Could not connect to www.
Can you connect to the server using a 3rd party ftp app like Cute, Filezilla
or WS_ftp? If not, then you should contact your host to confirm that you
are using the correct remote server settings:
Host name:
user ID:
password:
Host Directory: (i.e.html_docs, public_html, or something similar)
Passive ftp on/off
Secure (sftp) on/off
Other things to check:
Linux servers are cAsE sEnSiTiVe.
Could you possibly be out of available server space?
Are you running a very secure firewall or anti-virus program on your local
PC?

Could not connect to www.
Thanks for all of your advice.
I got up this morning and tried to publish - Blow me if it did not work.
I guess it was a tempory shut down of theFTP service as suggested by Derek.
Thanks again

Re: Could not connect to www.
Glad it's working!
Hit something similar in my day job earlier; lost connectivity to some
remote servers, mysteriously came back later; turned out to be a
firewall getting bored and blowing up links for the sheer hell of it...
