Network Solutions (A US domain name registration company) offers some very
nice templates on their web based site design program. As with most of
these things, it's better than nothing and can create a good temporary
presence while the real site is being built on another server. I've used it
once or twice but it's slow and not very flexible. I think it's really
intended for people who want a quick vanity site or maybe one with a product
or two to sell on line and who don't know much about the web, scripts and
all that other nifty stuff. I'm not too worried about Google's Pages. But
it is interesting and I appreiate knowing about it. Thanks, Karl.

I used a web based designer a half dozen years ago for my first site.
Painfully slow. I think many companies need a profesional touch or acturlly
professional designer to get their message across.
But some "profesionals" are not even close. My supplier's site is designed by
a Puerto Rican company. In 3 years they have gotten about 5 short pages of
information on it and a dozen miss-spelled words.

We offer that sort of service that you're referring to Ali. I think a lot of
people look at it and then decide to create their own site using something a
bit more comprehensive. I guess there OK for a simple home site or maybe a
quick holding page but I don't think we've actually got anyone using them at
present. It's there as part of the service package.

    Hi Karl,

I can see why you might initially feel worried. But almost all of my clients
in the last few years already had a self-made set of web pages (including
Flash openers) that they made in a browser or some rudimentary HTML
program/editor. Most of the UK ISPs offer some form of instant web presence.
Clients have come, they said, to get "a proper web site". What they meant
was a site written and put together by someone who understood traditional
marketing principles. Neither googlepages nor any other instant web page
maker can make a site successful or popular. That is down to copywriting and
content, and not even NetObjects Fusion can help with that.

    Cheer up!

    Ali

Scary...Google is beta testing a thing called Google Pages. The
resulting code does not yet validate with W3C, but it is way closer than
anything you can make with NOF.

If Google pursues this seriously and makes it somewhat more
customizable, there will soon be no need for anyone to use something
like WSP's Matrix, or NOF, DW, or anything except a decent web browser
    to create a web site.
