    Default Re: More bugs?

    Hi, Anthony,

Well, I don't see anything on chippeweb.com which you couldn't do with
Fusion, but not with the photo galleries, which use stacked pages. Fusion
makes it very easy to use frames, for instance, and it's no problem
whatsoever to link a photo to a thumbnail. As far as the pages being too
large, well, are they? What size are you setting them to be?

A corrupted installation is certainly not impossible, but if the program is
coming up and working until you get to a certain step, it would seem to me
that the problem is with that step.

Why not just start tomorrow, post something which does work with, say, 6
photos, don't change the frame yet, and let us look at it?

There's enough collective experience here to fix most problems with Fusion
sites. In fact, I can't think of a single problem we haven't gotten to the
bottom of in the ca. 4 years I've been intensely reading and contributing to
this newsgroup. Otherwise, we're all guessing and that's not productive and
    gets you no further.

When you say you're doing nothing 'outside of creating pages and adding
objects' - the question is how you're creating pages and adding objects.
Until we see some code, we're all in the dark.

    Lucian

    Default Re: More bugs?

Thanks for the suggestions. It's NOT operator error. I'm doing nothing
outside of creating pages and adding objects. I'm not advanced when it comes
to web authoring. I frequently test and save when I know things are
working. The problem is going back to the project at a later time produces
corrupted objects that get deleted. All Links being lost in menu boxes,
photos disappearing, objects suddenly being corrupted, etc.

I tested again, and I now know for a fact, that after setting up a gallery,
then going back in and changing the frame style is what caused all the full
sized pictures to disappear. I tried it with the one good gallery page that
remained, and went page by page in the album view, and all I saw was the
thumbnails instead of the full sized photos. I had hoped to use the
internal gallery creator so I could keep a consistent look across all my
    pages.

As for posting something, that's just it... I have NOTHING to post, because
3 times already I have lost what I've done.

I uploaded my old Website, created with Front Page 98 to my webserver
www.chippeweb.com. This is basically what I want to do, with all those
photos, and more, and a few other things. FP was SO easy to work with, and I
never had any of the problems I have here. However, with all the changes MS
has made to IE the stuff I created with FP is next to useless.

Perhaps it IS the photo galleries that's the problem, as that is what has
been giving me the most grief. However, what would I have possibly done to
make Fusion refuse to open my Home Page for editing, greeting me with a
"page too large" error and telling me to open it in Win NT4? Publishing the
site locally showed no sign of large fonts in the home page. There were only
2 text paragraphs, regular font size, the rollover menu on the left, the
banner, and a small photo of me in the top border.

    | Hi, Anthony,
    |
    | Fusion's not a perfect program by any means, but when I read posts like
    | yours, I can't help but feel it's 'operator error' - and please don't take
    | that the wrong way. I've been using Fusion for about 9 years, I guess,
    and
    | I can't even remember the last time it crashed for any reason. So I guess
    | what I'm wondering is if you've tried to take things step by step - saving
    | templates as you go - and seeing what exactly is causing the crashes -
    i.e.,
    | not to wait until you have four complete galleries with 60 photos each up
    | which then crash.
    |
    | Those of us who contribute to these newsgroups often will tell you certain
    | ways to keep your life simple using Fusion. In fact, I uploaded a post on
    | just that a while back which has been copied often since. If I get
    | ambitious, I'll look for it and post it again or, what makes more sense,
    put
    | it on my server.
    |
    | Its essence, though, was to use dynamic html output (instead of
    | fixed-page-layout), CSS, simple table structures,etc. Also, when you're
    | just getting started, to take it slow, put a bit of text on a page, local
    | publish it, examine the code with 'View Source' - a great way to do this
    is
    | with Firefox's Developers Toolbar, for instance- then put a bit more on
    the
    | page, see what it does, etc.. In other words, to not expect miracles and
    | improbably complicated things from Fusion or any other web design software
    | just because you believe the software should do what you want and the
    rules
    | of html and css and javascript be damned.
    |
    | Having said that - and I'm not saying that's what you did because there's
    | little anyone here can do but guess until you put up something for us to
    | actually look at and examine - Fusion's stacked pages - used in several
    | places, including for photo galleries, seem to cause trouble more often
    than
    | not - but not because there's inherently anything wrong with the code,
    just
    | through people not understanding how to use them or what they can do.
    |
    | I and others gave up on Fusion's photo gallery tool a long time ago
    because
    | other gallery solutions seemed more flexible. My personal favorite is
    | JAlbum's BananAlbum - available - free - from www.jalbum.net.
    |
    | You can see examples here:
    |
    | 1. used within a Fusion page as an I-frame:
    | 2. used as a standalone album: http://www.lwdgrfx.com/2005FallMarket1/
    |
    | Take a look. You can integrate any of JAlbum's skins into Fusion easily
    | although I prefer to use them as standalone albums.
    |
    | If you have something we can look at, put it in a test subdirectory on
    your
    | server and post the link here. We may see something you're overlooking.

    JAlbum's BananAlbum - available - free - from www.jalbum.net.

    You can see examples here:

    1. used within a Fusion page as an I-frame:
    http://www.lwdgrfx.com/JAlbumIFrame/
    2. used as a standalone album: http://www.lwdgrfx.com/2005FallMarket1/

Take a look. You can integrate any of JAlbum's skins into Fusion easily
although I prefer to use them as standalone albums.

If you have something we can look at, put it in a test subdirectory on your
server and post the link here. We may see something you're overlooking.

    HTH,

    Lucian

    Default Re: More bugs?

I am doing nothing outside of adding pages, photos, text FROM WITHIN Fusion.
I am a novice at this (but VERY knowledgeable of computers, operating
systems, and software). I have know advanced knowledge of web authoring, so
I do not do anything outside of creating the WYSIWYG page creation and
setting up photo galleries. I do nothing advanced, nor outside of Fusion. I
just wanted a simple site containing personal pages and photo albums.

Also, I let the unzip window close on it's own when running the main
installer and the updater installer - I did not close them manually or
interrupt them. Can you offer any suggestions as to what I might be doing,
or have done to cause these problems? As I've stated

    Here's my latest example:

I set up 25 photo Gallery Pages, and completed 4 Complete galleries - each
with between 30 and 60 photos. All thumbnails and photos WERE there, now,
only the thumbnails are there - the full size photos are gone. I see the
thumbnail page fine, but when I view the actual photo album pages, the
thumbnails appear, not the full size photos. I have also discovered that
using the beveled frame on the thumbnails page causes all the extra space
between the end of the thumbnail gallery and the bottom of the page. When I
tried a few other frames, and resized the page, the page size stayed put. I
also suspect this is how all my photos were lost - in changing the gallery
frames. In my recycle bin, I have noticed dozens and dozens of JPG files -
the files that WERE part of the project. I did not put them there. This
must have been what the software found that was "corrupted" and deleted them
    as I mentioned previously.

This was supposed to be a fun project to occupy my free time at nights and
weekends, but it's been turning into nothing more than anguish and
frustration for me. I am going to have to start this project over again for
a FOURTH time, should I be brave enough to try again.

I just cannot understand why my pages are being changed out of nowhere, and
items just keep getting deleted or corrupted. I have well over 1,000 photos
I had wanted to include in this site, as well as many other pages, but it
looks like I won't be able to do this. I am getting very frustrated with
this - not good for my blood pressure. I am doing nothing more than running
the software, creating and adding pages, photos, texts and links - but
things just keep disappearing. I have 50GB of webspace, and still have
    nothing to put up there.

Having the computer knowledge I do, as well as my knack for problem solving
(part of what I do for a living) seems to be of no help here, because I
expend a great deal of time and effort into getting this website created,
only to have it automatically destroyed at some point or other. The
aggravation it is causing me is no longer worth the effort, I am afraid. I
sincerely would like to be refunded.

I thank you for you prompt response.

    | Anthony,
    |
    | Sorry you're having such difficulties.
    |
    | I can't help but think there's something you're doing (or have done)
    that's contributing to the problems.
    |
    | It doesn't help your situation, but I've found Fusion 9, especially with
Update 2, to be very stable. As have many
    | others.
    |
    | It has it's issues, but nothing like what you seem to be running into.
    |
    | Have you added any content using HTML Source View?
    |
    | When you installed the software originally (and again when installing
Update 2) did you allow the setup windows to close
    | on their own? Particularly the self-extracting unzip Window. Clsoing it
manually can lead to an incomplete installation.

    Anthony,

    Sorry you're having such difficulties.

I can't help but think there's something you're doing (or have done) that's contributing to the problems.

It doesn't help your situation, but I've found Fusion 9, especially with Update 2, to be very stable. As have many
    others.

It has it's issues, but nothing like what you seem to be running into.

Have you added any content using HTML Source View?

When you installed the software originally (and again when installing Update 2) did you allow the setup windows to close
on their own? Particularly the self-extracting unzip Window. Clsoing it manually can lead to an incomplete installation.

No. I am creating everything within Fusion 9.

This thing is really screwing up! I added another page, now, every page I
navigate to says invalid objects were found and were deleted. IT DELETED
ALL MY BORDER MENUS AND LINKS, AND ALL MY PHOTO GALLERIES!

This software sucks BIG time. Do they give refunds? I requested a refund by
email, but have not heard back. Am I going to have to request Amex to
reverse this charge? I don't need this aggravation. 200.00 for the
software, and 25.00 for site styles 1 & 2 - you'd think the software would
actually WORK. I should have trusted my judgment and just bought Front
    Page.

I think I WOULD be better off just creating the pages in Word.

    Default More bugs?

Not to put anything down, as all software has bugs - but some of the
problems I have seen in the 2 days I have used it are amazing.

I need help .... OR A REFUND! (I have already requested one).

    1) I spent about 2 hours getting my website together (a personal web site).
The main focus will be photos of family / friends. Anyway, after 2 hours of
work, and about 4 or 5 pages completed, I tried to open the project again
and am greeted with a message that invalid objects were found and would be
removed. I was told the operation was successful. The website was useless
after this. I had to start ALL OVER AGAIN.

    2) By this time, I was a bit more comfortable and was able to recreate the
lost pages a bit more quickly. I tried to change some settings (I forget
where), and the program just lost focus, like there was a hidden dialog box
somewhere, but none was visible, nothing in the task manager, no button on
the task bar. I couldn't click on anything in the window. When I tried to
click anywhere in the Fusion window I would get an error beep and the window
border would flash (exactly what happens when a dialog box is displayed and
you try to click outside the dialog). I had to kill Fusion.

    3) On next restart, I received a message that the site was corrupt and a
backup would be restored. It seemed to restore fine. By this time, I had
about 30 incomplete pages in the website. I then discovered that a menu drop
list I created with 25 items lost ALL the URLs I had pasted in. The text
labels were still there, but the URL boxes were blank. I had to go again,
and click, ONE BY ONE, then reposition the properties window to get to the
next item, on and on, for all 25 links.

    4) I fixed that and saved the project. Then, when I tried to go to my home
page to edit it, it would not let me open the home page. It said the page
was too large and I needed to resize fonts in the associated style, OR open
it up in Windows NT 4 (HUH??????). The home page only had the usual
rollover links in the border area and 2 paragraphs of text, and a small
picture. Funny - I could publish the site, and the home page was fine - no
large fonts, and the home page was only 1K in size. So, I had to create a
new page, then drag it above the home page to make that my NEW home page,
then delete the old home page.

    5) This one really IRKS me to no end... I have created many photo gallery
pages, and have completed 4 pages so far. When I created the pages, I
resized the bottom border to just below the bottom of the thumbnails grid.
However, Fusion INSISTS on creating A LOT of empty space after the end of
the thumbnails. I have links in the bottom border of these pages, so one
would need to scroll all the way down to get to those links. No matter how
many times I resize the height of the page, it always reverts to the big
empty space. If I resize the page, then preview the page, the blank space is
gone - until I view the page in the editor again. Why does it do this???
And how do I get rid of the empty space?

I have WinXP home - all updates (NOT IE 7), 3GB DDR RAM, 1 TB HD space (on 2
physical drives) about 600GB free space on drives. I would think the
software would behave better than this.

    Any comments/suggestions/criticisms welcomed. Thank you.
