Yup, Wordstar was pretty hoopy. WordPerfect was a bit of a revelation
when it came along, I still have a soft spot for it (GUIs? Who needs
'em!). IBM Displaywriter somewhere along the line too...

TRS-80 was spawn of the devil in our neck of the woods <g>

I can relate to that too.

I think I still have a 100 light break out box (for RS232) around here
somewhere along with at least 100 DB25/DB9 setups<g>

    :-)

Whoa, steady there Charles, you'll start a fight - the Dragon was made
    in Wales!

I did a bit of Googling; apparently you can pick up a brand-new (i.e.
unsold / unused) Dragon 64 for $45 here:

Well that could be (since that is where our ancestry comes from<g>).

We were importing it from a distributor in England ... my bad.

Cool - I might have to get one<g>.

I actually started with a Commodore VIC-20 and made the full swing of
things, Apples, CPM machines, the Dragon of course, then on to the PC
clones (Sanyo MBC-550/555) and right on down the line.

Not to be outdone, it takes long time to convert ASCII to binary character
by character and then to key it in to a PDP8....

    True<g>

I never worked with an 8, but did the PDP11...

Yikes, WordPerfect. Now that's devil spawn in my eyes. I've tried many
times and many versions, and I've never been able to wrap my head around
WordPerfect. I just don't process information that way.

My sister doesn't either. She learned word processing on WordPerfect.
Even though she's extremely bright and used it frequently, it took her
years to remember the command structure. OTOH, I set her down in front
of WordStar one day while she was visiting and quickly showed her
WordStar's command structure. She picked it up instantly and had her
document done in minutes. And when she was doing multi-language stuff,
she found she could get more done and more easily in Nota Bene than in
WordPerfect. Nota Bene had a command structure that was very similar to
    WordStar's.

And yeah, the TRS-80 was also considered devil spawn in our office.
