    Default Importing A Word File

Please Advise as to why I can not Import Word Files into a Page Layout-under
    Page view.

To all concerning participants of this thread, let me set the stage:

    Running NOF 11 -
    Current Updates -
OS = Vista Ultimate ( running great no problems here)
    Office 2003 Professional

The function to import Word file documents is important to me because my
team and I work with content (literature) that is provided. And as it stands
because of the lack of this ability to import Word files we are forced to
keep Office opened and the actual Word Files open in order to 'cut & paste'.
This is inefficient and creates a problem with our work flow.
See image below>>>>>> Notice how "HTML Page" is my only option? and
    "Document" is grayed out!

In Site View - the option to import Documents is available, but this is not
how one imports documents - doing so in Site View will only create a NEW
Page and undesirable results may occur.

    Please advise anyone. Much Thanks

Hate to say it, but that's the way NOF's designed to work. An Office
document will only import as a new page. From the help text:

"When you import a Microsoft Office document, the imported document
becomes a page in your NetObjects Fusion site."

Not ideal in your case, granted. Putting aside all the issues folks will
warn you about about MS formatting (occasionally v. painful!), how about
something like this (others may have alternatives):

Import the document to NOF as a page. Assign a zero-margins border to
the resulting page (and probably exclude from navigation). In your site
where you want the document displayed, place an IFrame element in the
layout, using an internal link as the IFrame link target. Granted this
gives you effectively two NOF pages for every doc, but it's a start. A
variation on this would be to use a little bit of javascript on your
menu links to change the location (src) property of the IFrame, rather
than having discrete pages / IFrames for every doc...

Off the top of my head, other variations might include saving the doc as
HTML directly from Word and referencing that, exporting / converting to
    PDF...

Personally I'd definitely go the word to pdf route. There are a number
of cheap/free word to pdf converters available and pretty much every
    browser supports pdf.

In either case, instead of creating a page, what's wrong with simply
adding a file link to the appropriate file. That way it displays in
the browser windows either as a doc or pdf file?

Every time I tried to import a Word document as a page I get the following message when I try opening
it in NOF: "The page is to large..." In other words the import never worked for me.

I also need this frequent import of Word stuff and definitely do not want
separate pages. I open a text box. Then I copy in Word and paste SPECIAL in
NOF with no problems (so far!).

A common occurrence. When it says 'too large', it usually means 'too
wide'. Try making sure that the layout you're using has a wide right
edge (say 1100px+) to start with - hey presto, tulips! Alternatively,
enlarge the margins in the original doc.

Know what you mean, but it depends how faithful to the original format
the doc needs to be. I use paste special, but then the docs I use don't
have a lot of heavy formatting to reproduce, so it's easy to re-format
    after a paste...

I have to do this and all I did was to export the word doc as HTML and then
import it into the site with a borderless iframe. All the word formatting is
    retained.

Well, my Word documents are simply plain paras, with some headings, and
sometimes with bullet points or lengthy fractions. After importing special I
go through them manually restoring such things as heading sizes, bold,
spaces to replace tabs in the fractions and so on. I have found by
experiment that I have to open the text box to the required width (nearly
always just less than the width of the layout region) but the height is just
the default one line until the Word stuff is pasted in.

I mean *pasting* special of course, not importing...
