Version 10 rant
Is there some way to stage a 'boycott', or something, of NetObjects?? I
haven't had V9 long enough to get all the bugs fixed! Now we're expected to
"upgrade"?? Hello... And now we are 'stuck' with an 'unstable' version, with
no support?? That sure isn't good/ethical business practice!! It would be
nice to get some kind of discount for only having this program 5 months - or
maybe I could have been 'warned'?? Too much to expect!!

Re: Version 10 rant
For what its worth I have been reasonably happy with version 9, I will
upgrade to 10 but will take the time to learn the new version before testing
it on my live site. I know a lot of my "issues" were with my own learning
curve . This is a great forum and many who contribute show great patience
and knowledge with the "learners" such as me.
There are great additional support sites out there also eg beyondfusion,
and gotfusion. like you I had bought 8 just befroe they brought out version
9... but I was also aware of the new version in development. The cost of
the Fusion is a fraction of the all time greats for developing web sites ...
Dreamweaver, Fireworks etc.even when you have to pay to upgrade it
...... and like the saying goes you can please some of the people some if the
time.....

Re: Version 10 rant
I think it is a matter of record that I threw a big snit at 8 and had barely
calmed down by nine. Ten has come as a bit of a shock. It is very different
and it includes a lot of very useful free programs. I haven't checked out
everything. I keep hoping for things I know aren't there. But so far I am
impressed by improvements to the interface.

Re: Version 10 rant
Hi
As you may have noticed we just released the 9.1 update which included many
new features and not only bug fixes. Like all of our updates, these are free
updates even when they include new features and functionality. Although we
hope you will upgrade to version 10 at some point, we do not abandon support
for the previous version when we release a new version of the product. We
encourage our users to upgrade when they are ready to do so and the latest
release of the product contains features and functionality they desire. Some
will choose to do so immediately, others at a later time, and there will be
a few that wait until the next version. This is the choice of the user. If
you have any questions or in need of support I encourage you to contact our
support department or utilize the many additional support options of the
community (such as the knowledgebase or these wonderful newsgroups etc). You
will find an very loyal community that is always more than willing to help
no matter what version you are using.
Thanks
Scott

Re: Version 10 rant
Hi,
Having upgraded from NOF 8 I was disappointed to find (after migrating my
site to NOF 9) that the 'GoTo URL' function failed to work. Although this is
reported as being fixed in NOF 9.1, I find there are problems relating to
the preview/publishing of the background in this upgrade. Despite being
reported and frequently discussed there appears to be no progress on this
issue.
Yes, this issue may be addressed in NOF 10 but this upgrade will personally
involve a total system migration (hardware and applications) to XP.
Considering the cost of a hardware package and replacement legal software
this is hardly a financially viable proposition. OK my system may be
considered old when compared to the cutting edge, but it still all works and
does exactly as I want (with the exception of NOF 9.1 publishing the
background) so at present I see no reason to replace my system.
All things considered I accept I am a small fish in the pond and probably
don't use all the functions of NOF but please can we fix what's broken
before adding more bells and whistles. Thanks

This has been my plea for every app I've ever used, not just
NOF. :-) To date, it's gone largely unheeded.
Unfortunately, people don't pay for bug fixes (or at least
they don't want to). And reviewers and pundits don't care
about bug fixes. They only care about bells & whistles.
Nevertheless, it costs a lot of time and money to fix
things. I know -- I work for a software company.) There's a
constant push-pull between fixes and new development,
between the need to clean up your messes and the need to pay
your employees.
Am I letting Website Pros off the hook? Absolutely not. But
it helps to bait the hook with a little compassion and
understanding. :-)

Re: Version 10 rant
OK, there may be a conflict between development and fixes but they broke it
on two counts through the release of 9.0 and the 9.1 fix. As a customer who
purchased the software (NOF 9.0) surely I am entitled to a product that
works the same as the previously installed (NOF 8.0), or to put it another
way fixes should correct errors in the bells and whistles of 9.0 and not
what was broken by the implementation of the upgrade. What guarantee have I
got that if I upgraded my system so that NOF 10 can be installed it will
work as NOF 8 did or NOF 9.0/9.1 should have.

Re: Version 10 rant
Hi Mike,
If you bought a new car, is there any guarantee that the new one will
perform as trouble free as the old one?
I think this is very subjective.
NOF 10 is quite a change from NOF 9.1, with many new features, many new ways
to do things, complete redo of the user interface, new flash components, new
flash photo gallery, complete control over css and lots more. I would guess
that with the addition of all of the new features, while keeping
compatibility with old features and the integration of all of these, there
is always a chance that there will be bugs. (This is not reserved for NOF or
WSP, why do you think that Microsoft puts out weekly updates to Windows and
I bet no-one will be guaranteeing that Vista will be as good or better than
XP - another topic)
I do not know whether you have been observing WSP lately. I sure have, both
as a user and as a beta tester, and they seem to be very dedicated to the
development of NOF. One big step was that NOF now generates valid code, a
very large step for NOF.
With the major changes in this version, I am sure, will come some bugs, but
rest assured that WSP will be on top of it by releasing updates in a timely
fashion.
I have never felt so good about NOF.
The development team, is very serious about producing a problem free, full
featured, website development tool, the beta testers are working very hard
to identify and duplicate possible bugs, WPS is also working hard to remedy
any bugs that have been found.
Guarantee no! but hard work and dedication to attain a state of the art
development tool, I would say so.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Re: Version 10 rant
Don't understand why you are forced to go to XP. NOF10 appears to run very
well on W2K. What are you running?

Re: Version 10 rant
I am..
Why boycott, you're not obligated to make the upgrade, and v9.1 is a very
stable and reliable product for developing sites. From what I've noticed,
support from NOF has never been better. Much more participation in these
forums. Take a look at the v8 forums. Folks with that revision are still
getting help as well.
If v10 offers many new options that, if you think will be of benefit, are
well worth the price. The cost of an upgrade can probably be quickly
recouped with time and functionality improvements. If not interested you
still have a great product with an option to get more functionality in the
future when you think you'll need it.
I for one, based on what I've seen from the beta efforts, am more enthused
for the future of Fusion than at any time in recent memory.
...... also blessed !
