Default "Tool tip" or popup without opening new tab in IE

Can anyone suggest a way to display either a "tooltip" type box or a popup
type box, maybe 400x400 pixels that won't open as a new tab in IE8? For the
"Privacy," "Legal" and such links on my site, I'd like instead of driving
the user to a new page with not much info on it, to instead just have the
info popup - it can even be via mouseover to appear and then disappear when
they move the mouse off. If I use a popup window I simply get a new tab to
appear in IE which REALLY isn't what I want.

    Any suggestions?

Look at this tutorial: Tooltips on image map in NOF10:

You can't open a new tab - that is a user preference in their browser as to
what happens when a new window opens.

I'd recommend you use Lytebox or Floatbox.

You can see Lytebox in use at www.ezchangelog.com (the download page uses
it to display a Version History and also a System Requiremensts

BTW - the System Requirements page is just an NOF page built with the zero
    margins border...

Floatbox is even nicer, but does require that you are using the XHTML
publish so that NOF sets the correct DOCTYPE.

It has some cool ways for doing mouseovers, etc.

    Lytebox:
    http://www.dolem.com/lytebox/

    Floatbox:
    http://randomous.com/tools/floatbox/

Lytebox works fine, but development has ceased on it.

    Floatbox is still quite active.

    Does that help?
