    ..
Indexing algorithms will "usually" give the <h1> header the most prominence followed by <h2> and down the line.

If there are no <h1> tags the index will give the next one in order the highest priority.

So let's say that you have paragraph text <p> and only a single <h3> block of text, that <h3> block will be treated with more priority then the <p> paragraph content so in effect that single <h3> block has the same weight in the page content whether it was marked as <h3> or <h1>.

You should "try" to use <h1> for primary page or paragraph descriptions and lesser descriptions use <h2> or <h3>.

The lower the number the higher the priority of the content within that tag.

You can define them in any way you wish but you should use header tags on every page to denote important "identifying" text.

I'd like one of those plates of cookies!!!

Regarding h1 tags - there shouldn't be more than one h1 tag per individual
page. Beyond that, your use of h2-h6 tags depends mostly on each page's
content and how it flows. You can set the font, color and size of each tag
as you please, even set them all to the same size if that is what you want.

Personally, I have rare use for h3-h6.

Sooo... If I were to go into styles and make the h1 header the same as my
regular text (12 px) I would be able to highlight a phrase on my site,
call it a header, but it would still look the same, but search engines will

If this is true, should I also go into h2 ? the same way.. and so on...

    ..
You do NOT have to make header text larger but you may want to do something like center the text and bold the text or change the color of the text so that it stands out from the regular content.

Header tags are usually used for... well headers... something like this

<h1>New things to keep your eye on</h1>
    <p>normal paragraph content</p>

When you put a header/title statement above a paragraph use the header tags to delineate it and set it off from the "regular" text.

As an example on your http://www.jlfurniture.com/index.html page

above your text place something like

"Hand Crafted Furniture" and make it a header by applying the <h1> tag to it.

Before your 2nd paragraph you could say something simple like "Training" or "Experience" and give it the <h2> header tag (maybe smaller text or a different color)

The next paragraph could have a header that says "Commissioned Furniture" (use a header tag to make it stand out)

The last paragraph could have "Custom Furniture" (also as a header)

Doing this you have not "changed" anything but you have given the spiders something to digest.... Pick out more descriptive words and titles

If you set your header tags exactly the same as your paragraph tags you will not accomplish anything as the spiders are smart enough to realize that you are just "header spamming" and might penalize your ranking for "trying to fool them"
