I want to add video clips to my web site www.hillingdon-watch.org.uk

Instead of people having to read the sometimes lengthy articles I thought I
could summarise the contents with a video starring myself!

What is the best approach, Should I stay within NOF 11 or link in some way
to Utube?

Any thoughts would be welcome.

ID your main audience and build for that demographic. Videos appeal to
younger site visitors but may fall short for older citizens.

If your web host limits your server space and bandwidth usage, this could
preclude you from hosting videos on your main site. In that case, YouTube
and other video sharing sites come to the rescue.

YT is free, they convert your native video to Flash. They carry the
bandwidth for you and your video is delivered from ultra fast, dedicated
streaming servers. YT limits each video to under 10 min/1 GB. Use Ctrl+T
to paste the "embed this video" code into your site pages.

Looking at your site Peter, I would suggest simple audio would suffice;
shooting your own video is not something to be undertaken lightly if you want
professional results.
A good quality headset mic would provide sufficient quality for web use, but
Rode's Podcaster outfit with its high quality USB condenser mic for example,
would be a better option.

Having recorded your material, you can find any number of mp3 players that
integrate into web pages; many offering a juke box facility that allows
visitors to select which tracks - or subjects in your case - they wish to
listen to. The Wimpy player is one popular with some NOF users. Just use the
NOF Ctrl + T to insert the player code where required on you pages.

As I have mentioned here before, I consider embedding YT video into your own
web site looks cheap and nasty. And lowers the quality of your site. If
bandwidth or hosting requirements are an issue, sign up for a Amazon S3
account. But either way it's worth doing the thing right. By all means make and
upload a video to YouTube, but have it direct back to your own site; do not
embed their video into it!

Finally you would probably find my teleprompter software Tele-Prompt useful -
www.tele-prompt.com even for pure audio recording, but especially if you decide
to try the video route. It has a built in audio recorder, making it an ideal
tool for making broadcast quality audio!
