Re: Dump Norton .. I should do, but ...
You both deserve thanks for your time and efforts .. and yes, Norton can be
a right pain in the derriere, but it's something I have gotten used to and
thought I had fully sorted out its peculiarities by turning off the annoying
bits and running other protection programs alongside it, to replace them
with better alternatives.
Contacting their support is a recipe for numerous frustration attacks,
fruitlessly re-installing everything and waiting until the operative turns
the page to " stock answer number two" which is similar to "stock answer
number one" .. so I won't be dong that !! ;-))
Do you think Norton is objecting to the word "banner" and can the Flash
banners be renamed within NOF 9 ?
Cheers

First- Nancy gets the credit - she thought of it!
Solving the problem? Best way is to dump Norton & get better AV software.
I use NOD32 (www.eset.com) & love it. Better protection, less obtrusive &
cheaper. However, most anything is better than Norton! If you must stick
with Norton - I'm sure there's a setting that will let you allow js, etc.
All I can suggest there is to search help or contact (good luck!) Norton
customer service.

Re: Indeed ...
Perhaps it has been fixed in NOF10 .. I wonder if any of their engineers
read this forum and if they will issue an update or tell us a workaround for
NOF 9 to fix it ?

BTW, FWIW, I switched my virus protection over to www.avast.com about 5
years ago and never looked back. The free home registration does a GREAT
JOB.

Re: A good recommendation ..
I am sure Avast is good, as is AVG Free which I use on my less-powerful
'back-up system' .. but despite being a pain on occasions, in 8 years Norton
Internet Security has never let me down as far as protecting my computers
from infections.
Although I don't use their latest version, my XP Pro system is powerful
enough to overcome Norton's resource-hogging tendencies and I kinda feel at
home with it.

Re: Getting there slowly ....
Hi Nancy,
Many thanks for the link .. since my last post I had actually been "playing"
with these and Norton's ad-blocking settings, all changes had absolutely no
effect on the I/E7 display ( or lack of it ) .. but on re-booting, I just
tried Firefox and Opera and hooray, both are now successfully showing the
Flash banners ! :-))
So just the I/E7 browser to try and fix .. I have added www.afriscenes.com
to its trusted site list .. but to no avail and I am running out of ideas ..
But the problem is gradually unravelling in a positive manner, thanks to you
good folks.
Cheers
David
