    Default Google analytics

Is there a way to put the google analytics code on a buttton/graphic that
downloads a pdf file to see how many times it is downloaded?

    It's already there.

Open up analytics & sign in. Click Content (left side of screen) & then on
    Site Overlay.

This brings up the site with a bunch of "flags" on it. When you hover over
any of the buttons or links it tells you how many clicks they've received..
